The 4th is one of 3 days of the year, no matter how nice out it is, that the boats stay at the house/dock.

So, Memorial Day, 4th July and Labor day? Good advice, but sad. We had some folks capsize their 21 footer on 4 July, some years ago, in the bay. The night was calm, and the capsize caused some drownings. IMO, it is real hard to capsize a 21 footer in the bay. I will guess that all the people rushed to one side to flip it. It would take 8 people at least, maybe more. I guess 10 fatties sitting my gunwales might do it.

With the way people drive around here, hell no... sadly. Last time I went out on a holiday was about 5 years ago and the river was sustained washing machine from idiots. I'd have to try but I could've capsized a 21' on that day. The average bloke wouldn't have had to try. Actually every year it seems someone runs over another piling so there's that. Last few years I've had to work the holiday anyway... but triple time has a nice ring to it lol.

Well, I will be out there.
Got behind on my "new" boat and the repower with a brand new engine, finally got the motor mounted and rigged today, and the first hour of break-in is done. Need to get the 10 hour break-in period finished up.

Will be visiting a very small 600 acre lake where Dave Marcus (nascar) used to own a motel and restaurant. Should be quiet enough as everyone else will be on the 4,000 to 10,000 acre lakes with all the resorts and campgrounds. I do have about 50 lakes as backups, all within 50 miles of Rib Lake. Might hit up the Turtle-Flambeau Flowage out of Park Falls, 13,000 acres of water in the middle of the woods.

🙂 I have never heard peeps refering to Lake size by acreage ....well maybe wiki p but round here its small , med or large in relation to NZ lakes .
Its all relative , if someone asked me how big a local lake was Id find out which lake they did know and give them a " half that size , small-medium " sort of thing .😁
Now Im going to have to google earth those places so I can suss the size compared to say Hauroko , Mavora or Monowai. 😁😁, but I do like to see where you guys (Us ,Canada ) are fishing ....and what you catch .🙂

I'll be at my cabin on Siskiwit lake. 340 acers. Usually not to busy, a couple hours of skiers, then just the pontoons.

My preferred lake is 3600 acres, or for 99% of the world, 1450 hectares.

Not sure about thase Yankees up north but down here we also get onto miles of shoreline. Look up a map of Normandy lake and tims Ford lake, both here in Tennessee. They are not big round circles which is the way I like it.

As a teen this was my lake and what turned me against holiday time on the water. That's was in the 80s and the boat population I'm sure has at least doubled probably quadrupled:

The Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri boasts a massive 1,150 miles of shoreline, more than the combined coastline of California and Florida

Back in 89 were we’re out on the 4th of July and got rammed by a Yahoo on a jet ski. That caused us to crash into the bridge. I was tossed out of the boat and ripped my leg open on the way over the center console broke free and pinned driver to the floor the 2 other guys panicked and jumped out leaving him alone and trapped while running about half throttle on to the beach. It’s a miracle that no one was on that section of beach when he went ashore. He tried to kill the motor and the dame key broke off so he managed to pull the fuel line and waited for the motor to die.
I was the only one hurt out of all this well and the boat. This happened in longboat pass in Fl if anyone is familiar that area. The tide was ripping like crazy. The boat went ashore in Bradenton beach and by the time I made it shore on was on Beer Can island on the longboat key side.
I haven’t gone out on a holiday since.
Safe travel to all and good luck.

Interesting that it has so much shore line for only having 86 square miles of surface area.
Ranks 63 in lake size in the US.

The “pond” I boat on (an estuary actually) is 5,479 square miles with 11,684 miles of shore line.

The 4th will be spent in the pool with my favorite adult beverage in hand
