Mercruiser trim up and trailer up non functional.

Saturday I had temporary no up trim or trailer up button. It resolved it's self Saturday for rest of weekend. (I do have trim down and trailer down.) Today same thing. No trim up and no trailer up function. No clicks from up solenoid to so I replaced up solenoid. Still no trim up or up trailer function. No click from up solenoid. Only the down function solenoid clicks.

Did you check the switches and wiring?

Granted, my Mercruiser is old (1976 MC-1), but at least on it, the trim up switch is used for both functions (the override switch merely jumpers/bypasses the trim limit switch on the outdrive to allow trailering). No noise and a presumably good solenoid makes me think you're not getting power/ground to the solenoid.

Could be busted wire inside shift handle. My up button never worked but I thought that was because I had a busted wire on the sender down near the bellows. But with new sender, same issue, up button alone does not work and read online here that the Quicksilver 3000 shifter I have is known to develop a broken wire inside the handle. I have two new solenoids.

Well I wouldn't just start replacing parts willy nilly. That gets expensive. Don't ask how I know 😶‍🌫️
You need a multimeter. A decent one can be had for $15 and it is a must for boats. You will want alligator clip leads too. First do a continuity test or resistance test between the ground wire on your trim pump and your batteries ground, or grounding bus bar. You should have continuity. Or your ohms reading should be less than 1 ohm. Then do a continuity test or resistance test between the solenoid ground and your battery's ground/grounding bus. The ground for your solenoid and trim pump may be the same wire. If you do not have continuity, or your resistance reading is greater than 1 ohm, your ground is your problem.

If you have a good ground, then switch the multimeter to voltage. Take the multimeter leads and put one on the ground and one on the blue wire on the solenoid. Hit the trim up button on your switch. Are you getting at least 12v? If not, you are not getting a signal to your solenoid from your switch. So you will have to follow that wire back.

I think the key is determining if you are getting 12 v to the up solenoid when toggling the trim and or trailer button. based on what you outline I would think intermittently you are not getting the 12 v to fire the solenoid.

To test you could jumper 12 v directly to the solenoid where 12 v from the switch is supposed to be.

Tested the up solenoid connections with test light. No 12v when operating trim up and trailer up buttons. Checked fuse and main plug coming into pump from mm J

Would agree if no 12 v coming from switch to solenoid That it’s the switch. Hopefully it’s not too hard to get to in controller
Downloaded the instructions from Mercruiser. Seems pretty straight forward. Remove handle, disassemble, remove old switch assembly. There is plug where the wires are attached.

Bought new switch assembly. Plugged it in and still have the same issue. Power trim motor runs in the in/down direction, but not in the out/up direction - both trim and trailer switches inoperative - out/up solenoid does not click. Put a another new Quicksilver solenoid in too. No change. No corrosion, all connections clean and tight. When I run the boat eventually it starts working normally but not predictable. I found that when sits for several days it stops working.

check the 3 wire plug at the pump ,might be some corrosion there
I know what your talking about. It was spotless. I cleaned it away. Pushed it in firmly. I didn't try that today but I did Tuesday as well as last weekend

I don't know how to determine whether or not I have 12V coming in to the switch assembly or not....When I put a test light on the top right small post on the selenoid and operate the thumb switch it does not light up....if I take a screw driver and jump the bottom large nut to main hot lead the drive comes up. I am following the test procedure prescribed by Mercruiser.

disconnect the plug at the pump,take a jumper from the pos battery and insert into one of the openings. almost certain the vertical one is a positive and the horiz ones are blue and green insert the jumper in all 3. power to power ,noting will happen, blue will raise the drive ,green will lower the drive.
This should isolate where the issue is
