Case had a brass countersunk oil plug with hex stripped. Ended up having to remove the plug by drilling........... Ended up tapping with 1/8npt........... then installed a stainless plug....... Do you guys know what type of anti-seize I should use?
I sanded the case and I am trying to figure out what type of paint I should use.. what do you think about interlux 2000e as a primer? What should I use as a finishing coat? Is a clear coat needed? I am waiting for a pump kit to arrive. The oil was green, any suggestions on what type of oil i should use?20250627_183941.jpg20250629_201229(1).jpg20250629_202519.jpg20250629_202526.jpg

Over the years of owning lots of Forces, this spot caused the most aggravation.
It would weep oil no matter what I did to seal it.
I tried paste sealers(plumbers goo) thread tape and a few others.
Never really did fid a way.
My thoughts on Anti-seize, Yes use it. In salt water it doesn't work as good as it should.
When installing the plug just don't over tighten it.
The best fix I had found was re-tap a larger hole and use a screw with a washer. It sticks out a bit but a little silicone smoothed out around it stopped things from catching on the end that sticks out.
Hope this helps

Nice work on that tapping job. I use yellow teflon tape on the threads that is made for natural gas lines and is oil resistant. Has worked well for me so far. I also use a hex head socket when removing or tightening the plug. Seems to fit better and less likely to slip and bugger up the plug, unlike an allen wrench.

Thanks for the informative replies. Bought a quart of interlux 2000e primer...... is a two part primer..... it cannot be applied on top of one part paints......... so.... I am going to have to sand the entire gear case and propeller all the way to bare metal. The blue/green gear oil seems to be quicksilver gear oil for motors over 75hp.

Before I painted my LU I considered leaving it bare aluminum. I polished it up good with some Flitz and it looked good. After one use it turned an ugly black color. I guess it is not the kind of aluminum that can resist tarnishing very well. So it got painted.
