Bravo3 x Shaft Not Fully Seating in New MerCruiser 6.2 Coupler — Normal or Problem?

Hi all,

We recently had a new MerCruiser 6.2L ECT BRAVO DTS (2024, 350HP) engine installed with a Bravo III X 2.20 GAS DWP drive.

While reviewing the installation, I noticed that the input shaft from the Bravo drive appears to remain partially outside the engine coupler — with about 2.5 cm (~1”) of splines still visible.

I’m not sure if this is normal, or whether the shaft is fully seated as it should be.
I’m just a concerned boat owner trying to understand if this level of engagement is acceptable.

👉 I’ve attached a few pictures to better show what I’m referring to.

Any insights would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi, and thanks a lot for your reply!
Really appreciate the reassurance — it's good to know that having about 1 inch of spline visible is still considered normal.

Just to be sure, I’ve attached a photo where I measured the exposed spline length — it's exactly 1.19" (3.0 cm) from the edge of the coupler to the end of the splines.

If you (or anyone else) has further comments or sees something worth checking, feel free to chime in.
I’m just a concerned owner trying to understand things better 🙂

Thanks again!
