Mercury 60 HP Differences

I'm in the market for a small fishing boat and a lot of them have Mercury 60hp engines on them. I recently came across a 2008 that had a 60 four stroke that didn't look like the Big Foot version because it didn't have the hump back appearance.

Did Mercury make two different four strokes in 2008? When did Mercury start making four stroke 60 hp engines and when did the Big Foot version start? Did these two models overlap in any particular years? Is one better than the other? When did they start making EFI engines and are they much preferred over carburetor engines? Any other information on these engines would be appreciated.

I have searched on the internet for answers but finding the exact info that I want seems to be very difficult. If you can point me to a link with this information that would be great too.

Anybody? I've searched a lot and haven't come up with anything concrete. I know the information is out there somewhere, but I haven't been able to find it. I'm sure I'm not using the right keywords.

Four strokes have been replacing two strokes over time for quite a while now. Less polluting.

EFI models have been replacing carburetted models over time. Less polluting. Less problematic.

Use the link above to get to what Mercury has offered over the years.

Why does it matter?

Thanks for the link boscoe99. It didn't give all the information that I wanted but judging by the weights, I think 2005 may have been the last year that a 2 stroke was made and 2006 may have been the first year that all engines were EFI. I'm also thinking the ELPTO engines were two stroke and the engines without the O were four strokes.

I'm trying to figure out if some years would have better engines than others. I think I read sometime back that the 60 four stroke was originally a three cylinder and they completely changed it and made a four cylinder out of it. If this is correct, I was wanting to know the first year the four cylinder was made.

Edit: I went back to 2003 and found that a four cylinder four stroke was made then so it may have always been a four cylinder.

Stay away from any Carbed 4 strk.

Yeah, I was wanting a 4 stroke EFI.

I read that in 2007 the shifting unit was improved. From what I have saw, it looks like that is when the engines started having the hump back appearance. I thought the hump back look was exclusive to the Big Foot but I'm pretty sure I was wrong about that.

From what I've learned so far is that I want a 2007 or later that isn't a Big Foot.
