I bought a Lund 315. I have not owned a boat for 40+ years. The motor has not run since 2016. I'm guessing I'll need to rebuild the carb. Should I try it before replacing the water pump impeller?
Replace impeller when you want but know it is crap. A minute with no water won't kill the motor but impeller can break into small bits and clog stuff upstream that you will not appreciate the work involved in chasing that down.
After looking at the older Lund brochures, this boat was only offered in console steering. At some point someone must have converted it to tiller. I can't really see that the console itself added any strength but maybe the modifying/deleting the seats may have. Not sure what I will do to replace the seats. Livewell? Battery or gas can storage?
Who knows what parts of the water pump impellor blade are broken off ?
I would at least tie the boat to the trailer and back it into the water. At least about a foot above the intake's of the motor. find out if the motor has a ...Overheat .... alarm and how to test it. It might save your motor if broken impellor blade parts are clogging the cooling system.
Do NOT use any old gasoline in a used tank !!
Once you get the motor running, now is the time to check hull strength. Most of these old boats have a wood skeleton for support and that needs to be solid. If the wood is rotten and the skeleton fails, you will sink. You will also want to check under the floor for excess water that will add weight.
The transom is solid as it was redone. I am wondering about the stringer(s) etc but I will probably wait until next year before really diving into that. I think I will focus on the motor. Impeller, carb kit, spark plugs, and new gas and see what else is needed after doing these things.

Stringers usually rot out before the transom, boats rot from the bottom up !
Testing is easy, please test for the safety of your passengers ! If you have never saw a fiberglass boat skeleton fail while underway....it is not pretty...and your insurance won't cover it.
