Yes, that’s how I’ve been doing it for years.From your description I’m thinking if your boat doesn’t have a trim gauge then you wouldn’t really have a need to have the gauge side sending unit adjusted correctly as there’s nothing to have set up properly against.
But the trim up limit switch side ought to be adjusted correctly to help with things like accidental over trim, lower the chance of U-joint damage, etc. all in which that needs to be adjusted to the trim cylinder pin to pin of 20 and three-quarter inch as noted below.

Thanks Fun Times. I was able to adjust the "Trim Limit Switch" to the pin to pin 20 & 3/4".
