135 mercury

i have a 1989 sea ray with a 135hp mercury outboard. when i purchased the boat last year it would run 50mph@ 5000rpm. now the boat is hesitant coming out of the water and will only run 45 @4500 rpm. boat idles fine and runs fine just dont have the hole shot it once had. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

How much "Stuff" aka weight, have you put on the boat since it ran 50 mph? Is the prop still in good condition? If the blades are dinged up, that can sure slow down the boat and the rpm.

the prop is excellent. no more weight than usual. the man i purchased it from said it sat for awhile and he had everything gone thru. just wonder could dirty carbs do this? thankx

Have you looked at the spark plugs? I had a 1988 searay seville with the same motor and had that issue if it idled a lot and it sat. I kept an extra set on board for that reason to exchange out or a piece of nylon pad to clean off plugs in a pinch as their gap less plugs.

i have changed plugs. run cleaner thru it just about everything i know. it acts like its not opening up all the way but thanks

let me ask this. if a cylinder was down would this motor still run without a miss

Where do you live? Sometimes a boat will pick up a lot of moisture weight in winter storage.

i live in ky.even with the motor trimed all the way out it still will only turn 4500rpm

Did you ever figure it out? We have an '89 Sea Ray in my picture and we're having the same problem
