The gauges flat lining probably means you have a bad connection or wire in the system. That should have made it crank.
Might want to try what
@Jeff J suggested. It should be just aft of the starter. Big, black and round. Might be a bit buried behind other stuff.
Spray some contact cleaner in it when you have it apart. Then plug - unplug and repeat a few times.
