I try to always go a different way than I came… on trips I will set the gps and then drive my wife nuts from hearing the gps continually say ā€œrecalculating.ā€ I tell her, ā€œI just like my way better.ā€ Sometimes I am going by direction, other times because I want to go on a certain road.

I often tell the GPS mistress, in my best George Bush accent, ā€œNot gonna do it. Wouldn’t be prudent."

Here’s a real dumb ass one that anyone who tows will hate…you’re backing up, and want to open the drivers door to make sure the trailer isn’t going to hit something and it throws the transmission into PARK! Why, well the fool designers went away from simple intuitive auto trans shifters to stupid dials, buttons and ā€œmono stableā€ whatever that means and drivers got confused & it has caused accidents. Many years ago the PRNDL was mandated for the same reason and we need to go back to simple shifters that you don’t have to look at to operate. I love the simple shifter for the 545RFE in my 07 Grand Cherokee….

I need to remember to check out the auto park if door is opened on the Caddy, it doesn't do that on my truck

I heard there may be a way to defeat it. Another guy on one of the Jeep boards had this problem on a late model Grand with auto braking. If the back up camera doesn’t recognize that it’s a trailer behind you when you try to back up it jams on the brakes!

Lou, it's because of dumbasses. Case in point: This feature would have saved the gate at our transmitter site when my former boss hopped out of the vehicle to punch in the gate code without putting the vehicle in park.
I eventually had to tell him that there was no way on God's green Earth that I would ever ride with him again, even if it were to take me to the emergency room.

Yes there will always be dumbasses but make the operation of basic controls INTUITIVE, so they can be operated by feel and make them the SAME, from one vehicle to the next.
The term "standard shift" in reference to a manual transmission comes from this concept.
At one time not all auto trans shifters used PRNDL, some had R at the extreme right next to L, this caused accidents when a person switched from one make to another.
If you make controls simple, and intuitive, even dumb asses can drive, as I saw when I started driving in the early 70s.
Tech does NOT make everything better, it is effectively proven. We have to have more tech to make up for the initial un-corrected mistakes in tech!
Human factors engineering, auto manufacturers don't pay attention to it.

well,
took delivery of my 2025 toyota. First car ever with the lane monitoring, distance monitoring, auto braking...etc. Didn't like it. I have always driven using "racing" techniques such as apex recognition in curves....no, not talking speeding or recklessness.... And if you read the manual, there are pages of what will make the systems, ineffective, false corrections, and just fail. Plus, manual says turn it off except for this or that because of false corrections.
christ....
I disabled them all.

My girl has a 19 corolla. Nice enough without most of the tech. I do wish it had more than 3 windshield wiper speeds.

the camry hybrid was/is a great car. Was just required by inspection ( they're honest) to replace all rotors and front pads (i did all) last year. It had 153,000+ miles when sold to my son last week.
People might be surprised, though, as to how much money I really saved. Not as much as one would think.....guesses are welcome. 😁

My gut says like $300 a year on fuel... but depending on environment that could be generous or stingy.

You have to account for the MRSP of a 2013 camry LE compared to the MSRP of the camry hybrid LE. Maintenance cost might have saved a little, hard to compare.
It's total savings that are important.
So, using your #, I only saved around $900. I calculated more.....and took a gamble on the battery and traction motor reliability.
things to think about.

I didn't take stab at the msrp difference as I don't know what it would've been in 13. Most people I know say the maintenance is a wash other than brakes... seems to go a little longer but oil changes, wipers tires etc all are about the same unless you have the low rolling resistance tires which can be more. Most people I know just track fuel savings and it can be anywhere from $200 to $600. Granted they are in smallish suvs not a car which may also skew it. A lot of times in an apple to apple trim comparison their cost was less than a grand for the hybrid option. Seems you get a little more standard when that box is checked....
