What should be connected to this flame arrestor?

These are the numbers on the engine cover sticker.
4.3 GL-D
3869251
4012141889

It has a holly carb.

I’m assuming some hoses are supposed to connected to this flame arrestor but none are. Bought it used, motor was supposedly swapped, and I don’t know nearly enough…. sigh

Any ideas?

If you want to go back to original, its items 7, 8 and 9 of this diagram (link). While it is ok to remain as is, you should, at least annually, clean that breather along with your flame arrestor. Put them in a bucket of warm soppy water and let them soak for a while occasionally agitating them. Thoroughly rinse and let air dry.

Google about Crankcase Ventilation if want to know more about why this is needed (will be called Positive Crankcase Ventilation or PCV as in cars it’s a closed loop system for emissions vs. venting to the atmosphere; although if you go back far enough that is exactly what car motors did, called a draft tube).
