Just about ready to get the boat out … hunting season is starting and the stripers and lakers will be getting a bit shallower … let the fun begin!

The lake is unlikely to freeze here so no winter storage for mine. Temperatures do get below freezing so I make sure I drain what I can at the ramp and park it at home with the engine vertical. Finding shad for bait can be a challenge but I think the best time to catch blue catfish is during the winter months.

The absolute best thing is the lack of other boats on the water for the next few months. Inboard motors are already disappearing as they get winterized. The rest will be gone in about a month. Only those fishing will remain.

I never actually got my boat ready this year. I was going to have it ready to run in September but I stopped procrastinating on my ‘51 Plymouth instead and did the engine work it needed to get back on the road, so now I have that to run weekends for the next couple months.

Ran out of tasty snacks. Went to Shure Fine Food Store on a mission . Bought a box of their own brand of microwaveable popcorn. And a bag of Cracker Jacks.
LIFE IS SOO GOOD.
Popcorn I did 1 minute then turn over the bag. Another minute then stop and turn over the bag. Then 30 seconds.
PERFECTION of all HUGE buttered and salted corn. YUM YUM
Cracker Jacks is also fantastic.

Ugh! Cyclops - you gotta get some real popcorn there and pop it in a pan with grapeseed oil. So many have forgotten what real popcorn tastes like from those bags being so pop-ular (no pun intended... well, maybe a little one intended!).

Many people don’t even know that’s possible these days. I can’t remember the last time I saw a jar or bag of just kernels. But then again I’m in a small town.

I got my sister one of those for Christmas in the 80’s as she was constantly burning the jiffy pop.
I was an Orval fan myself and always used a regular old frying pan with another frying pan for the lid so there was lots of room. I don’t have teeth anymore so I don’t make it to often. I tried to teach the kids but they always went for the microwave and I gave up.

The local Piggly Wiggly still carries the Orville Redenbacher popcorn. A 4-quart stainless steel pot with lid is what we use. Can't be beat!

Pulled my boat out yesterday in prep for fall/winter fishing season.

Fish until the fish migrate out of the area or weather turns bad, whichever comes first
