I have 1969 85hp Evinrude, Model85993E. The original manual says champion L-19V.
I'm looking for suggestions for something other then Champion. Something that others have had good luck with. I'm in Wi. with elevation of about 1000ft Above SL. This engine is just going to be used for running around, probably no water skiers!

Autolite 2852 is very close. The problem is that Champion had a handle
On the marine plugs for a long time, so
The OEM marine rated plugs sometimes do not have a direct match if you venture outside of the spec plug and just try to cross it

That was they were speced for. Back then there wasn't a Conventional Alternate. Use of a Conventional Plug actually alters the Ignition Timing Slightly by placing the point of ignition closer to the Piston.
I like the Surface Gap Plugs and had a Set last over 14 yr at about 600hr on them, and never had a Misfire due to the Plug.
