Went over to the local reservoir this afternoon to make sure my Jon boat was secured for the incoming storm. Went over to check the launch and out in the middle of the lot sat a tackle bag packed full of expensive bass stuff. Estimate it at 800 to 1000 dollars worth.
Went through it looking for ID, nothing. Took it to lake office and left my name and number if it’s not claimed in a week it’s mine. Hopefully the guy comes for it, but won’t be mad if he doesn’t.

May sound a bit crazy but maybe mention the general name, state, etc. you found the bag in as while chances may seem low, maybe they are a member here reading this and might say oops, thanks.🙃

If nothing else, all the members here that went fishing recently are going to run out to the boat, truck, garage sweating bullets to see if there’s is where it should be.😳🙂

Good thought but,, Also a chance some unscrupulous member might read that and run over and claim it as theirs. I’m confident who ever lost it will go back to the lake and inquire about it, actually I’d bet they already went over and got it.

The guy in the marina office has already put the bag in the trunk of his car and will tell you the original owner has picked it up...LOL

That is probably right. At our marina we put it in the lost and found bin, that only us can access. If someone inquires about stuff we let them describe it and we will get their item if we have it. After a year it will go to the employee or other person who found it originally.

A year seems like an awful long time. The person who lost the items has long forgotten about it or replaced it within 90 days. Anyone know what law enforcement uses to determine abandoned property?

Well we give them a chance to think about what they have done. A year in the back room doesn’t hurt. Besides, there are a lot of boaters around here that only are here for a week vacation for fishing and come from hundreds of miles away.

Update! The ramp closes for the season tomorrow. They called me to come get the bag. So, No the people working there didn’t put it in their trunk or pass it off to a buddy. It doesn’t seem to be pilfered either, but I certainly didn’t know everything that was in it when I dropped it off.
I pulled the stuff out of it and added up what was there. Turns out to be around 600$ worth of tackle. Plenty of it brand new still packaged. Feel bad for the guy that lost it. But could be he’s a tackle junkie and doesn’t even miss it, I know guys like that. I know for sure I’d realize it was gone. It’ll sit just how it is till spring.
