So yep, nerd toy....
I have no intention of ever using it , like most of my stuff I just liked the look of itIt's just the nerd level exponentially rose from your description - tho saying 'for big round things' was perfect for my brain level.
Many years ago when my father was in his late 60's he dropped his rod off the boat over on Speck's home lake. The water was clear enough he could see it laying on the bottom in what he figured was about 12' of water. Now my Father was a good swimmer back in his college days but now many years later in retirement spent his evenings enjoying expensive cigars and cheap beer. Also having had had triple bypass surgery and a rerouting of veins to his right leg he did not bear any resemblance to Buster Crabbe but at least was not overweight. Much to my Mother's dismay he stripped down and figured he could swim down and retrieve his rig. After several tries he found he could no longer dive that deep and that fact along with Mom calling him an idiot made him more determined to complete the task. He moved the boat over to the shore and picked up the biggest rock he could lift and went back out. Out of the boat he goes cradling the rock in his arms, goes to the bottom, picks up the rod, and returns to the boat the victor. Of course he got no congrats from Mom then or for years afterwards. Still the glory was his since he retrieved a rod and reel that I know he didn't pay more than 15 bucks for.
