Killing a bat in Ma comes with heavy fines and in some cases jail time. Threatened spices are $1,000 per bat and endangered are $2,000 per bat. 5 of the 9 species are listed as endangered.

One time my mom had a squirrel in her attic. I bought a trap and caught it. I then took it for a ride and let it loose.
A friend later told me that I could have been arrested by the Wildlife cops for “trapping“ a squirrel. So what is the correct thing to do ? Shoot it in the attic?


I'd keep my mouth shut then and just do what I need to do.

That’s the best advice. Take care of the issue and keep your mouth shut.

I had someone tell me the best way to kill a skunk is to drown it because they won’t stink. I had someone else tell me it was inhumane and a crime to do it.

A crime to kill a skunk by drowning? Well just go shoot it then.

I once went to retrieve a dead squirrel from a trap in the yard my neighbor saw me and gave me the finger, I just smiled and waved. People are funny about things sometimes.

Spent a bunch of time in a small town outside
Kissimmee Fla. growing up. Mid to late 60’s.

Once a week or so they would drive a pickup with a fogger in the back around the neighborhood spraying DDT. A guy on the loud speaker would advise everyone to seek shelter until the fog cleared.

They did the same in my neighborhood in Bradenton Fl. I lived out on the Islands so they used the helicopter to get to all the wetlands that surround us back then. It’s a concrete jungle now. They found a way around building on all the wetlands they said would never be built on.
In a nutshell she’ll that’s why I left.

Great aunt lived in Bradenton. Her favorite place to fish was under the lights off the “green bridge”.

Understand they have since built a new bridge over the manatee. Kept part of the old green bridge as a fishing pier.

I never fished the green bridge but it was always talked about being a great spot. There was a guy that sold smoked mullet on the side of the road in Palmetto that was just amazing. I still think about from time to time and I haven’t had in some 40 years or so.

We had skunks in the 8” irrigation pipe all the time when I was a kid. The fix then was to shake them out and shoot them. Every skunk I saw shot sprayed while it was dying. Please feel free to shoot as many in your yard as you like but I don’t enjoy the smell enough to shoot one in my yard.

I used to shoot skunks until I learned that they did out ground bee nests and eat the larva. I guess I dislike ground bees more than skunks

Bees don’t bother me. We have carpenter bees in the barn. When I get stung I go get a can of carb cleaner from the shop and clear them out. It would probably work on a hole in the ground as well as a hole in the wall.

Ground bees you never get stung by just one and they are vicious. They nested in my wood shed where you could not spray them, I could only load and stack wood at night but every September skunks would dig out every ground bee nest on the property.

The only ground bees I have encountered are bumblebees. Honey bees will swarm. They are a lot of fun to encounter while trimming trees. I cut through a limb with a hive I didn’t see in it. Not many places to run when 40 feet up in a bucket truck. Thank goodness I am not allergic to them.

The carpenter bees I have sprayed with carb cleaner barely made it out of the hole, let alone flew or went into attack mode. Pretty potent stuff but it will ruin most paint. Much faster working than the insecticides I have tried.

We have ground nesting yellow jackets and they are no joke. Been light up to many times. I take great caution now.
When I encounter them in the buildings with only a small hole to gain access I have started use dawn dish soap in a tank sprayer and soak them down good. It does the trick and they don’t bother trying to rebuild.
