This is a Mercury 2005 50HP EFI outboard. The SN is 0T991605
Was out yesterday and noticed fuel coming out of the VST overflow, only at idle speeds. This hasn't happened before, and only happened for two times and idle speeds, then stopped. Later on, when putting the boat on the trailer, the engine started idling very low and eventually stalled.
I've noticed issues with a lower than normal idle on cold starts, which went away once the engine got warm. I was attributing it to potential issues with the throttle body, but now it seems I have my answer.
All other forums I have dug through attribute this to a bad float valve, but the fact that there was an oversupply and then subsequent starving of fuel to the engine makes me think that this is a low-pressure fuel pump issue.
What, if any, are known fuel pump-related issues with this motor? And, what specific part should I be looking for in the low pressure pump to be causing incorrect pressure regulation like this?

Thinking back on the day yesterday, there are some more events that could be helpful to narrow things down.
- At the ramp - engine has low idle until it gets a little warm.
- Fuel begins spilling out of the VST overflow at idle
- Happens again at idle after running to test if it happens at higher RPM
- Later on, after shutting engine off for maybe 5-10 mins, has trouble starting again. 1st try, maybe 2-3 cylinders fire. 2nd try it just turns over on the starting motor. 3rd try it burps and then fires up as normal.
- The above happens again later on a few times. Fuel coming out of the VST overflow does not happen again.
- Dies at the ramp at idle
