I have a 1979 Starcraft 16 foot Super Sport with cable steering. I have replaced the cable once and do not plan on doing it again. I have looked at two hydraulic steering companies, Seastar and VEVOR. Has anyone out there done the conversion using either one of these companies? If yes was it difficult?

I installed (well, my buddy did) Uflex hydraulic steering last year in my 1997 Mirrocraft. It has a Merc 150hp XR6 that came off a bass boat with dual cable steering. It was a straightforward installation, except my bud had the controls reversed! I figured it out before launching. We got it back to normal easily and the splash went well. The hydraulic steering is very light and makes the boat easy to drive, even with that big monster pushing it. The downside is that hydraulic is pricey. 💲💲

Hydraulic steering on a 16SS seems expensive and is overkill in my opinion. I've used the Teleflex SeaStar Rotary 4.2 NFB(no feedback) system on two of my boats and have no complaints.

Seastar is the old teleflex cable and steering. VEVOR is an amazon chinese company. U-flex is right down the road from me here in Florida.

Seastar and VEVOR.
out of the two companies you have mentioned, I would not hesitate to go Seastar. I would have serious reservations on Vevor
