Flooring ok to reseal/EVA foam?

Hi there,

Boat has been sitting for a hot minute, finally got my life together and the engine running in the tank as well, would like to get out on the water before summer is over, and preferably asap.

Never done anything with flooring, and i'm not sure if this plywood deck is too far gone or ok to reseal with epoxy and putting a self-adhesive EVA foam decking sheet over it? or if i'm better off just getting new marine grade plywood or exterior plywood w/EVA foam? or just re-carpeting?

Any pearls of wisdom appreciated.

My experience with Marine Grade vs Exterior plywood is the quality of the layers and layer count per thickness.....2 different critters. Marine is akin to cabinet grade with waterproof glue. Putting new marine plywood in will be your strongest and lightest repair material, and should outlast any other idea you might have. It is pricy but you get what you pay for. Also the installation would be easily done as compared to other "stuff"....BTDT. A good sealer (varnish type material) would top off a good job on your installation.

Plywood doesn’t look terrible but it’s already out and the time you spend prepping it could be time spent on cutting fresh ply and not having to wonder about it. Jmo of course

Funny thing about marine grade. I redid the floor in my 1983 Lund Tyee in 2023 the floor was soft after 40 years. Lund used exterior grade plywood in the floors at the factory. Just saying...

That wood looks like it's badly delaminating to me. I would say it's time for new wood. Marine grade or exterior, but not construction grade treated wood, it reacts badly with aluminum and causes corrosion.

I would also suggest sealing in a way that would leave a hard, non permeable surface if you want to use eva foam. The eva will be bad about trapping moisture, so you want to be as sure as possible that it can't soak into the wood.

when you are this far in, do it right if you have time and funds. Time is a week or so, money is your call.

I promise you us old guys will tell you (if you can) do it right at this point we wish we had.
