    Im looking for a shift shaft for a 1979 1400 140 hp , i have no serial number its gone , the shaft with the extension on it is 21.5 inches long , without the extension is about 18 inches long I will post a pic tomarrow whan its light so it will make it a little easier

    Major Nightmare

    Ok wow where to start yet again , bought my boat and merc 1400 a week ago , ran good , then died/ sezied , replaced impeller and got the motor running , its peeing , running pretty good , but no reverse or nutral , so i take the lower unit back off , to find the shif shaft end is broke off...

    1979 Mecury 140hp Major Problem

    to make a long story short , i just bought the boat 2 days ago , droped it in the water today stayed around shore to make sure everything was cool , shifted into gear and out , took it for 3 laps at wot around the lake ran great , came back to pick up rest of people , make it half way around...
