Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

Exactly. And I plan to run it a bit before installing. Sadly at this point, I can pull the engine in about 40 minutes so overall not a massive headache if I have to lol. Funny you mention that. I did do an analysis after the first 10 hours. Machinist reccomended changing oil at that point and...

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

I poked around the exhaust port while I had it on the hoist at eye level. (Could see what i was doing) Wasn't able to cause any damage or get leaks or observe anything that looked obvious or an issue. Beyond that quick check, I want them to handle it. If this had happened a few years down the...

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

Nah. I ran it on the bay, went home flushed and parked it for a week or two, then ran it for half an hour and fogged/winterized it and pulled the manifolds a couple weeks later. Otherwise keep it all covered. It just isn't very likely but not impossible I suppose. I am really starting to...

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

I want to say it was felpro marine gaskets. Everything else was. They're good at what they do so if it was a mistake it was a mistake... **** happens. If they didn't seal the head bolts I'd have seen that in the oil too.

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

So a little update. I dropped the engine off at the machine shop yesterday. They're going to test their work and figure out if there is an issue or not and they have jigs to test the manifold/elbow assembly again too. They agree its odd especially given its the same thing that was happening to...

    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

So today I got to working. The goal was to get the interior out. First thing was first, I brought the engine to the machine shop so they could figure out if I am leaking water or not. Next step, get out all the crap. More crap Still more... Pulled out the seat boxes... Now at this point...

    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

Since I haven't started pulling it apart yet and it's just sitting in the garage, I've just included a a few action shots from this season instead lol. Above is the first outing of the season. Took her out my birthday weekend after working some 96 hours straight the days leading up to it. This...

    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

So the long and short is this will hopefully be a simple floor replacement project... but we all know how that goes. I know of some damage areas under the floor I discovered in the back but don't know the extent of it and won't until the floor comes up. The good? The floor is only really soft...

    Closed cooling worth the money?

The freshwater kit helps extend the season too. Usually just have to drain the exchanger if you're into that kind of stuff... not that it's hard to pull the plugs normally but one point is easier... Not as easy as an outboard... but still better.

Got a new toy to test out eventually...

The only shot I got is from like 12 or 14 years ago. All I remember is I was running about 24 mph. Don't remember if I was testing props that day and if memory serves slight positive trim... which makes sense at that speed as I wouldn't be carrying enough speed to really lift out the whole boat...

Got a new toy to test out eventually...

Sounds like I have testing ahead of me. All else is bs and I can't test until I finish up working on the damn thing lol. And for the record, I typically run pretty much at neutral trim. Maybe slightly more depending. That's typically worth 300 rpm and 2 mph getting to neutral. Anything beyond...

Got a new toy to test out eventually...

I'd actually be curious to see how much more it lifts it... I haven't seen it to confirm, but I've been told very very little of the boat is actually in the water. It sure feels up and out. Like I said... I'd like to see how it does.

Got a new toy to test out eventually...

If I get a nice day in March and everything is done I may be out lol. You know what's funny? For as long as it's been out its hard to find exactly how it slates in the merc lineup as far as what I'd need... so I've run a mirage and mirage plus on this hull. From all the data I've sent out I...

Got a new toy to test out eventually...

Seems I like spending money when I'm not doing anything. Still investigating the engine and doing work on the boat... but found something I just couldn't pass up trying/buying. Looks like it was run a couple hours then shelved for a while. Cost next to nothing and maybe it'll knock my rpms down...

Maybe my turn for new boat time

Finding competent engineers or really anyone with any sort of accountability is next to impossible and is prevalent everywhere. But that latch is just plain laziness. One of several reasons I hade buying new is I feel like I spend more time fixing all the cut corners than I would've repairing...

How do you all like your remote oil filter setups?

I honestly think by the time the 90s rolled around, the blocks on the line were all the same and just were boxed and sent wherever. The last marine 350 I tore down (original to the boat) had the same cam in it as my 00 c3500. Casting numbers and all. I think pretty much all s10s had an oil...

How do you all like your remote oil filter setups?

All our 4wd S10s have the remote setup. The one 2wd doesn't. The other does. It was standard on the 4WD trucks. I believe it was due to the front drive shaft proximity of it basically touching the filter if it didn't have it.... I am unsure of why the one 2wd has it, I do not believe the 2wd...

How do you all like your remote oil filter setups?

No I meant that merc was receiving ones with the higher bypass installed. Wasn't doubting the remote filter housing aspect of it. Got 5 of them in the parking lot at work that jogged my memory this morning.

How do you all like your remote oil filter setups?

An interesting thought... the older S10s were built on the line with factory remote mounts for the oil filter as well as oil coolers and then at some point they were eliminated or not used on 2wd trucks. Perhaps there was a point where they were always shipped with the higher bypass pressure. I...
