    Well that's one way to keep it all from leaking out! That's an old farmers trick for a leaking gearbox on things like bush hogs and tillers.

    I'm looking through the 1970 Evinrude service Manual and don't see anything in the quick look before I have to leave the house. But I would say as low as you can get it and not have it cut out in gear in the water.

    I had a 1969 25HP rude on an older boat I had. Motor ran like a sewing machine and would idle way way down and just put around like that if you wanted to go slow. Looked rough but ran great. Sold that boat and motor 15 years or so ago.

    No there will be a throttle stop screw and the handle also only goes so far when it closes...it just stops twisting the way the handle is designed. The idle stop screw will keep the room from going to low...assuming your low speed idle screw is adjust right as well as everything else.

    Yes that's the one he was talking about. The old school paper gaskets were one piece any that was built into them. The modern rubber bowl gasket is two piece. That round one and the bowl gasket.

    I'm getting my Late Father in Laws 25HP rude in running order for brother in law. I know it's sat at least 10 years. Did the carburetor, fixed the screwed up out adjustment shift shaft and now rebuilding and resealing the lower unit. It sits on a StarCraft 14ft V bottom.

    If your not going to fool with that one it will be a parts motor and that's your budget. If I was you I would look for a good freshwater engine of similar size maybe even same engine so that I had a parts motor that I could try to pull parts off of as needed.

    What he said. You can unscrew the gauge and it still will say what it did in the cylinder. That's why they have that relief button to release the pressure on the gauge for next test.

    I would bet the carb rebuild does it. But I can't remember without going back does it run faster then after awhile slow down....if so I don't think the carb will fix that. It wouldn't run well at first then stop running fast and smooth. I think if it ran fine for 1 minute or 10 it should stay...
