I'm experiencing the exact issue that you've described. What did you ever find out about it? I have a 2001 Baja 272 Boss with the 502 mag mpi. It starts and idles perfect. Once i get out of the no wake zone it will get up on plane and run wot for a while then act like it's not getting fuel...
