    Merc Manual

Hey all, I'm looking for an affordable manual to help me tune up my '73 Thunderbolt 500. Used is ok since it will be getting greasy anyways. I have a great one for my older OMCs that covers '73-'91. Thought it would be handy to build up my manual library.

    Older 50 fuel pump?

This is a bit of a two parter, I hope that's ok. First off I've been having problems nailing down the actual year of this motor since the serial # doesn't seem to come up on any of the charts. It is a Canadian built motor, so maybe that's the issue. The serial number is 7014680 and it is very...

    Model # Location

I picked up this fusty old Evinrude to tinker on but I can't for the life of me find the model number. This motor was originally blue so the model number may be filled with red paint. There is a serial number tag but that doesn't help me with year and size. Any help would be appreciated.

    Control Interchange

I have a '93 40 Merc 4 cylinder (serial # 00259417) on my boat that is officially screwed. A friend has offered me an older Merc 50 (serial # 7070083 which may be a Canadian stamping) The shift and throttle cables look like they may work from my '93 controls but the bulkhead is significantly...

    Home Built Motor Stands

Hopefully this hasn't been covered too much. I'm planning on building something simple in my shop to use as a motor stand but was hoping to get some opinions. My first thought was to modify a vehicle engine stand but it looks like it might be a bit low and maybe tippy. Secondly I thought I...

    What Went Wrong

Alright, I'm past the point of anger and frustration and I've safely moved onto acceptance of my recent catastrophic (well not entirely) failure. Here's the jist of my situation. I purchased a '93 Merc 40 a few months back to replace my 55 OMC electric that was giving me problems and folks...

    Help ID This Motor

My uncle gave me this little outboard probably 20 years ago and it sat in a dirty corner of my garage since then. I dug it out recently and I'm considering giving it some attention over the Winter. Just wondering if anyone has any insight into this particular motor. The tag is stamped Peerless...

    Almost Awesome

After much struggling with my new (to me) '93 Merc 40 (OD259417) I finally got it running pretty good but I'm still struggling a bit with my low speed idling and hard starts. Once it's up and running it goes like a champ but I can rarely pull it into Neutral without it dying which makes for some...

    '93 40 Merc Opinions

Hey folks, I was looking into a '93 40 Merc recently that is for sale locally with controls for my 16' Aroliner and was wondering if anyone had any opinions good or bad on this motor. Thanks, Pat

    Older OMC impeller

Hello, I have a '69 OMC (model # 55973c) that I was planning on replacing the water pump impeller on since the motor is new to me and I have no idea when or if it was ever changed. Having never done this before I thought I would check with the gurus before I screw something up. I cracked all of...

    Any Aroliners Out There?

Most Americans will have no idea what I'm talking about since Aroliners were built in St. Bonifice Manitoba from the mid '40s up until some time in the 90's when they folded. They were reportedly the first aircraft aluminum riveted boats in the world but that's probably not true. Regardless...

    Keep it or Ditch it

Hey folks, I'm brand new here but I understand that this is the place to be for figuring out my issues and networking with fellow boaters. I purchased a 16' Aroliner this Spring with a '69 55 Evinrude on it. The old timer who I bought the boat from had no problems with the motor for over 15...
