When these motors hit something ( full throttle ) they might experience a " dynamic halt "-----Crankshaft stops but camshafts want to keep going.----Timing chain jumps on the sprockets.
The brass connecter is not an adjustment.----Line up the notch with the hole.---Then put the bolt in.----When bolts are tight that brass piece should not move,
I would say that the outboard ( no mention of model / HP ) is lighter than the inboard / outdrive.------I would beef up the transom and tie it to the stringers where inboard bolted on.----Move axles if needed.----Go fishing.
Many folks think that these big 4 stroke motors were not designed to be repaired after major breakdown.----If you can do the work yourself there is a possibility it can be done.
Simple-----That shift rod does not turn.-----There is no adjustment there !----If throttle is not at slow idle it can not be shifted.----Find the real issue.----Your location ?
