    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Been sanding and prepping all week! Mostly ready, just picked up the last few items for painting including majic reducer. Really hoping I dont mess it up!! Today I finished the majority of the sanding, and put coat-it on all the rivets I replaced. Now every rivet is coated inside and out...

    New Journey

🤤🤤🤤 I understand your conflict... could have bought a new spotter, rifle, and bow this year instead of my boat project lol. But man that is a beautiful rifle!!! Well worth the investment.

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

I cant wait either!! Haha. I didnt want nautolex mainly because its not padded, and the Admiral and I like the “teak” look. Slippery would be even worse. I am putting in a below deck gas tank and having the fill/vent on the gunnel. I was going to do hydroturf all the way down the gunnel but...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

@ShoestringMariner I loved the flooring (minus the color) so much so that I am doing it again! I guess its called hydroturf. Im convinced its all made in the same factory overseas, so i got the unnamed “knock off” version from the big online jungle retailer. I made sure to get it from a place...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Mine were wobbly too so i took them completely out, and put all new rivets in. Also braced them from moving side to side which helped. Made them strong enough to where i could walk on them if I wanted. As far as the bow stringer goes, mine originally looked liked the picture @Watermann...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Would have loved to have a ski locker in mine, but seemed like a lot of work to make it look nice and original. As far as measurements go, it seems like it depends which shift was working that day/year. In my ‘79, the stern is 18.5” wide between the center stringers, and in the bow its 18”...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Thanks! No pics of the support because it doesnt exist yet. The fuel tank was just resting directly on the ribs, but i have been thinking about the support system. I was just setting it up to see how it looks, and to make sure my measurements werent way off!! I do have ~3” above the...

    Starcraft boat market?

Theres an 18’ 1956 chieftain for $3500 near mammoth lakes here in cali. Not free but looked decent. Owner said he didnt want to sell it twice in the post lol. Dont see too many starcraft out here, and the cuddys are rare. Most like the ss and cc.

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Half the floors are in!!! (Covered in white sealant) The rest of the wood that the consoles sit on and gas tank sits between, foward to the bow, are just being test fitted. Really like how the gas tank sits and i have lots of room to work with. All the PO’s wood floors were too wide so...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Yes sir!!! Having my Dad here was a huge help. Would have taken me all weekend to do what we did in one day. 16 man hours today... Floor will be secured with the LF rivets, not counter-sunk. Could have sunk them in but the LF heads are so low profile, and the hydroturf is 6mm thick foam. Even...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Ended the day with a lot of foam done, and half the floors prepped for install tomorrow. When we first tried to fit the floors, we found out the PO had made the floors 2” too wide. They went past the chine and rested on whatever that out-dent is after it lol. So when the floors screwed down...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Live update!! Final putty on the SW, gunnels, and consoles is drying. Will sand that down later this afternoon! While I did putty, my Dad cut a bunch of foam for under the floors! Hopefully I have enough in there. He didnt want to stuff outside the 2 center stringers with triangle pieces...

Anyone own a big hardtop Chief?

I really like that layout for a cabin cruiser... would be a great overnight fishing machine. Looks very original to me or was redone in the 70’s. I cant help with your questions except heavier boats handle weather better. But I appreciate seeing this boat with such a cool layout like that.

Gotcha! Thanks. Never heard of those before but i like those too. I will have to look into that for my seat bases. For now, going to see where the tank lands then figure it out. Should have plenty of time with all the AL fabricating i will have to do. I did get another 1/3 of the...

    Starcraft boat market?

In CA (cali) there are 16’ supersports and 18’ holidays, restored, selling for $7-8k. Then there are islanders that are 20 years newer, in great condition, not selling when they are only asking $10k... You are correct that its the utilitarian nature and size. But its also the look - they are...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Forgot slow drying photos... I was lucky enough to have minimal corrosion. Worst spots were on the transom, and only 2-3 were the size of a pinhead that went halfway through the hull.

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

I’m guessing you meant u-bolts? I like that idea. Would be much more secure going to the floor. Will probably have the one in front go to the wood floor, the one in back will have to go to the stringer? Not sure where else it could go. May not be an issue. Will know soon exactly where it...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Well... should have ordered a rub rail a LONG time ago... figured it would only take a few weeks like their website says from wefco. Way off. Order is placed but they are behind by 6-8 week!! So I wont have a rub rail for probably a few weeks after my potential splash date... or it will...

My First StarCraft; 1975 18' SuperSport

Good to know Im not the only one running an old motor with some scoring. Last time the compression was checked was before me by the PO. I changed the water jacket cover since and its missing a screw so thats sealed by gasket maker... a fix that works but is not proper by any means. I need...
