    Houston….. We’ve had a problem…..

new starter came in yesterday, and I installed it today at lunch... Not nearly as large a PITA as I had thought it would be. Took about 20 minutes. Great news is, I now have 150 psi cranking on all six holes. now I can finish bolting this thing together and hear it run for the first time.

Merc 3.0 belt replacements can be challenging time-wise, but would you,

the one on my Galaxy was original when I replaced it last year..... so 43 years old.... about 15 of those were off the water though.... I do see a point in having a spare though, if it breaks at an "inopportune" time, its not like you can jury rig something quick to get you home..... having the...

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

Just keep plugging away at it.... it will be done sooner than you think....So far, Ive done three of these basket cases.... I think I have a mental illness, or some weird affinity to fiberglass resin and dust.....

    Volvo Penta 4.3 repair manual

that appears to be a "full set" I didnt get the EFI books, but I also bought them all separately for more $$$ (I saw a full set after I had bought 3 of 4 individually..... duh). had I to do it over again, I would have gotten the full set all together like that one. The carburetors should be in...

    Volvo Penta 4.3 repair manual

for my OMC, I paid about $125 for the set. If you look, you can find good deals, but in the end, the factory manuals are the gold standard.... if you want real sticker shock, search for some of the sites that sell them "new"....

    Volvo Penta 4.3 repair manual

not quite the same, but I just picked up a set of factory manuals for my 1995 OMC Cobra 4.3 (Volvo SX with an identity crisis) on Ebay.... General consensus is that factory is best, and to stay away from SELOC and Haynes.... where to get the factory books, well, thats a bit of a conundrum. I...

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

its not just those of us of a "certain age"... I am of "uncertain age" (47), and have a list at least that long.... Houston….. We’ve had a problem…..

well the engine is mostly back together... Still waiting for the exhaust gaskets to show up, along with the carb kit. A new starter should be here on Monday, as long as UPS doesnt keep it in Purgatory for any longer than they usually do.... Old starter is TRASHED.... brushes completely worn...

something new coming in electric OB

curb weight may be the same, but what do the batteries themselves weigh, as compared to the "fuel tank"... electric motors are a hell of a lot lighter than the average engine/transmission combination, especially in a RWD application such as the Hellcat.

something new coming in electric OB

the biggest issue as I see it, and as stated isnt the motor, its the batteries... while you can run out of gas with an internal combustion engine, its very easy to put some more gas in the tank and get back to the dock.... its rather difficult to have a buddy bring out a bucket of electricity to...

just as an update, I finally found the damn tag.... buried under a mass of dust.... its on the Port valve cover.... and sure enough, I have the drive I thought I did... 432APHUB

    Houston….. We’ve had a problem…..

and its starting to look like an engine again.... heads are on and torqued, rockers reinstalled, and the intake is just sitting in the valley (keeps crap outta the engine....) Ill install the intake tomorrow and run a compression test on #4 to make sure we have a good cylinder. The carb kit...

    Houston….. We’ve had a problem…..

well, both heads are off and cleaned... just waiting for the damn FedEx dude to show up with the valve seals and head gaskets.... then I can get that all installed..... I hate sitting on my hands waiting for shipments.... Life was so much easier when the parts houses actually stocked parts.....

    Houston….. We’ve had a problem…..

yeah, I am going with Delco plugs in it, MR43T.... having the correct reach should be better all around. The old plugs were a Champion RS12YC, which indeed is a Vortec plug..... somebody done OOPSed that one.... On another note, the second head is off, and I am lapping in the valves for it now...

Merc 3.0 belt replacements can be challenging time-wise, but would you,

exactly... one of the motor mounts goes THROUGH the center of the belt. other than that, its an easy job. Not that its HARD, mind you, just need a way to support the engine when you remove the mount.
