    Force 85 Control Operation

The 88 model has a throttle that in N you can pull the handle out and that disengages the shifter. Then you can throttle a little for starting once you pull the handle. The choke is activated by pushing and holding the key in(it should activate the choke slide and butterflies) that causes...

    89 force 125 trim issues

The first 4 posts in the Force forum. Read them, they cover a lot on the T@T It sounds like your pump needs the shuttle valve seals replaced??? See pics, #3 shows the bad seal and the new one.. The pump itself: there's nothing in the pump that you can fix s try not to "fix" it.

Carb leaking gas from top two holes 1989 85hp

Found the elephant: last year one of my customers asks me to get a 97 120 started after it fell off the pontoon. He neglected to tell me if fell off in salt water and set for over a year and nobody did anything to protect it :( The carbs, were in really bbaddd shape, right into the dumpster...

89 force 125 leaking fuel from carbs

The foam floats: usually they don't get saturated? make sure there set right? the brass plugs with the hole are for low speed jets(not used on all the 89 125 carbs)(wonder if they were replaced somewhere along the way???) there was 3-5 different carbs used on the 125. Post a few pics of the...

‘86 125 Force 2 cycle ran without oil

If they were gonna walk away they wouldn't be on here asking questions. Sounds like there's some oil mixed in it already. Do the tests and drain the tank and don't forget the fuel in the carbs and fuel lines.

‘86 125 Force 2 cycle ran without oil

Like Racer said, Compression test? They sell snake cams for the new smart phones. $11 for the one that fits my Android. Or pull the plugs and see if you can feel any damage with a long skinny screwdriver??

    Float valve needle 1989. 85hp

I looked for the needle, no luck.(I moved a while back and can't find anything) The wire isn't necessary but it helps with sticky/gummy parts.

120HP Force being smothered on exhaust fumes at idle

Something else that just came to me: on some drives there's a block that goes across the top of the gear housing it's about 2-3" wide x 1/2"tall x 1/4" thick it's silicone'd in place and blocks excess exhaust from going back up to the cowl.

New NGK BR8HS plugs improve overall performance

I ran my twin 88/85hp with Champion, NGK and Autolite The Autolite didn't seem to last the Champion would last forever if I left them in. Changed them mostly out of guilt, thinking I should change them every year or 2 One time I let them go for 5+ years and when replaced they were still in...

1991 ?? Mercury Force - Fuel streaming from prop while priming

You can double up the diaphragms if worried about rupture. Bought a boat with twin 88/85hp Forces. BOTH motors had double diaphragms. The old owner said he was an avid offshore fisherman, as much as 80-100 mi off shore. He wanted to make sure the pumps didn't fail????

Bad plug wire- 89 force 85hp

The butterflies don't have to be horizontal at full throttle. They can actually go past that at full throttle. What's the compression readings? low comp and the motor wouldn't start or be real hard starting. IF??? you get 4300 then the motors not "tired" I'd get a "tiny tach" and see what the...

    FUEL PUMP orafices: 3/8" vs 5/16" 1996 FORCE 75hp

The 85/125/150hp used 1/4" hoses from the factory. I changed from the twin 88/85hp. they used a 1/4" hose for both motors and supply line from the tank also 1/4" changed to a 225 hp EFI and it ran good with the 1/4" hose. But be careful when Ethanol fuel is used. The E screws with the regular...
