    My 17' boat is powered by an '04 Merc 40, mounted at 21.5" and at neutral trim, turning a Stiletto 10 1/2 X 12 hits 30.5 mph (GPS) at 5200 rpm WOT.     Lark transom height

    My wood boat project specs are 20" transom, I have located a '59 Lark in great shape for the vintage look, but its a short shaft. How high can I mount this engine and not reasonably expect cavitation (boat is 19' semi-planing or semi-displacement depending on top speed).

    I am looking into hooking up a 60's Evinrude 40 hp to a later version OMC single lever control box, the cable ends are the same style, but need replacing due to shortness. Could there be a potential problem here with replacing the cables, any recommendations?
