    MerCruiser MC-1 Trim Sender wiring

ok, working on a 1980 vintage MC-1 120 horse unit. Having a little issue with the trim sender, NOT the trim limit switch. Both are new, and are replacing ones that had garbage wiring to start with (multiple splices, butchered wiring, etc, dont trust it at all). Sender for my year according to...

    Spreading Manure, again

it truly is a bit sad that the days of independent and honest tests seem to be done and gone. All you get now is paid for advertizements and hype. It transcends industry and product lines.... everything must be taken with a grain of salt, and even then you need a good pair of boots to read most...

    Spreading Manure, again

well, that prop may be good at spreading manure.... If its the one that keeps showing up in my feed, then its definitely "unique".... you would think after all these years, hydrodynamicists would have figured out how to make a prop the most efficient it can be.... so the chances that someone...

    1975 Fiberglass Boat Restoration

nothing that many have not done before, some many times. If you take your time and do it right, you will wind up with a boat that is in near new condition, and will last you a good long while. There are those here to assist with questions and offer encouragement when it seems overwhelming (and...

    Cracked 5.7 engine

in the automotive world, that is a fatal flaw. Automotive V-8's also run a pressurized cooling system much hotter than the marine versions run. The marine engine runs cooler, and also has an open cooling system, so your leak is just a leak. What you have there is freeze damage, and is going to...

    Is this a concern?

now, would that be a genuine Rolls Royce Merlin, or a Packard Merlin...... what about those of us with an Allison V1710? Heck, I would settle for a Packard 4M2500 out of a PT boat (rather have the PT boat with all 3 4M2500's though.... :D )

    MC-1 bellows clamp preferred locations

installed the bellows this morning. this info was invaluable. Much easier to handle the clamps when they are in the right positions.

    Mercruiser OEM Belt Surprise

bingo. Back in the day they had a tool to measure the belt, and didnt need the application. I would think/hope a better auto parts store like a Napa would still have one of these, and not be dependent on application in their computer for finding the correct belt.

Pooched fuel pump.... need replacement options

my thoughts on this were even though its a carbed engine, 99% of the time, it will be sitting idle with the fuel in the float bowl possibly evaporated out. Getting it juice with the start circuit gives it a head start on refilling that float bowl and getting a good fire off without a lot of...

    Lower shift cable.....

You just made my day.... I saw that the hole was thru threaded, but had some "crap" in it. I ordered a tap to chase the threads, so that should solve my problem. I had been kicking my ass for the past few hours on how I could have screwed this up, then the realization came that most of the parts...

    Lower shift cable.....

ok. I have a 1980 vintage MC-1 outdrive, SN 5576434. The lower shift cable is done. If I go on Marineengine.com, using that serial number, I get a Sierra P/N 18-2157. However, If I go to the earlier schematics, I get P/N 18-2158 with a note that serial numbers up to 6225577 use the older style...

Pooched fuel pump.... need replacement options

on mine I have just an oil gauge and no warning light. 12v from starter to coil, and then a resistor wire for the normal run position. Ill come up with something, its not an earth shattering deal to rig in an on/off oil pressure switch into the 12v side of the pump, with an alternate for...

Pooched fuel pump.... need replacement options

looking at the electric as the preferred option. The fuel tank mounts on the port side of the engine bay, same side as the carburetor. Of course the mechanical pump is on the Stbd side, so you have the line crossing over behind the exhaust riser and then from the pump back over the top of the...

Pooched fuel pump.... need replacement options

Ok, engine is a 1980 120hp 2.5l. Fuel pump appears to be pooched, and is NLA through all sources I have seen. Not totally married to the idea of an engine driven pump, so looking for options. (Mercruiser p/n 86234A4 for the whole pump, or 49089A1 for the diaphragm kit). Sierra shows a 18-7278 in...

Cooling engine - direct water hookup

if your outdrive is off the engine, I would disconnect the hose from the transom connector that goes to the engine (raw water supply line inside the engine bay). this is how I have it set up on my 120 at the moment, I have the outdrive off for servicing and this connects to the same point that...

engine control issue for Mercruiser 120 (MC-1)

alright just a fast update for those that may be interested...... got some 1/4-20 coupling nuts about 3/4 inch long at the local hardware store this morning, flipped the side where the bolt head is, and buttoned it up. Got it mounted to the boat, and cables hooked up with no issues. New...

engine control issue for Mercruiser 120 (MC-1)

ok, since I dont see a separate forum for the binnacle controls, its going to go here. If this is the wrong spot, mods, feel free to move it. Boat is a 1980 Galaxy V-hull, 16 foot with the Mercruiser 120 setup. Binnacle controls are Hi-Lex controls. Originals were shot. Wouldnt move out of...

    MC-1 bellows clamp preferred locations

Awesome. I have the #6 manual downloaded, but hadn’t checked it yet. Nice that it gets that specific. Clamps were indeed a 5/16 hex, at least on mine
