Force 120 Outboard Low compression - rebuild it?

Keep us posted with what the shop says??

    High idle

Two part epoxy for the magnet, clamped in place. Worked good. Started it after freeing the trigger and magnet repair. The rpm's went down but not nearly enough. Seems like the quick start isn't kicking out? This is the first repair that I couldn't fix. Usually with help from here and that...

    Leak Exhaust gasket?

Yes the gasket is probably bad. Make sure the mating surfaces are good and "squared off" or the new gasket will leak too.

Force 120 Outboard Low compression - rebuild it?

You ever figure out the year? The early model 120 has some things the later models didn't. The recirc system, even the gasket on the port cover can be the culprit. The carb not set right, timing off etc.

    1972 55hp Chrysler Tachometer Install

These older Chryslers used an 8 pole and some a 12 then even a 20 Most 55's had a 8 If you need a tach for diagnostics?? They sell a "Tiny Tach" about 20$ Just hook it to the top plug lead and it gives a reading.

    High idle

Thanks Fazt. Carbs set up right. Something new: The Frankenstein: turns out the fuel pump has a hole in the diaphragm and the trigger was installed and basically locked in place. A magnet came off when we removed the flywheel(had to re-glue). Will start it today. Hopefully it will make a...

    High idle

Is there a timing indicator on the block? This motor, turns out it was a Frankenstein a piece from this one and parts from that one.

    High idle

It's a 200 hp. Sorry I've tried adjusting/pushing everything. The throttle pickup cam isn't touching the carb roller. No matter where the linkage is set it just revs real high. Someone said something about adjusting the idle on the carb each carb. I see a torx head screw that seem to adjust...

    High idle

1999 Evinrude.Carb model. Serial # coming soon. The comp is good, good spark. The rpm's at idle are 2-3k if not more. The linkage is set so the throttle pickup point is open. It won't go anywhere to let the idle down. How/what do I do to bring the idle down? Seems as though there's a new...

Force 120 Outboard Low compression - rebuild it?

90% will come right off. The exhaust chest, the screws at the bottom, they've been setting in hot salt water for a LONG time. They're 1/4-20 screws and I can guarantee at least 4 are gonna twist off. Then trying to get the rest of the threads out is gonna be a B*&^H

Force 120 Outboard Low compression - rebuild it?

Wiseco pistons are usually the best bet. You'll need the wrist pin kit and the rings from Wiseco. You should change all the rings. Wiseco rings only fit Wiseco pistons. I've found ebay is a good place to get parts. I've found that removing the exhaust cover can be a big problem, I just leave it...

Force 120 Outboard Low compression - rebuild it?

The checks in the mail along with the other 2 greatest lies. Before you go further maybe find a machine shop that can do the work?? In my area I've found 1 place(50mi. away) that does that kind of work. He works out of his garage. Maybe fill out the profile and you might find your close to...

1971 Chrysler 20 HP Coil Wiring

Looks like yours is a 1971. Your right about parts being hard to find. The points can look good and still need cleaning or filed?? Use a 120 or finer to clean the contacts, then check for spark. Franz Marine might have the points ???or Google antique outboard parts.

    significance of same cylinder-pressure

Force made a 120 with uneven compression on 2 of the 4 cyl. The top/bottom was 155 and the middle two were 145 It didn't make any difference in the way it turned over. But if one cyl. gets beyond 25% it can make it really hard to turn over, this affects most of the 3 and 4 and 5 cyl. motors.

Force 120 Outboard Low compression - rebuild it?

The head removal can be a B&^%H Take your time and if the bolts don't come easy? Use PB Blaster, Krol or any good penetrating oil. A propane torch comes in handy too. You can remove the port cover on the side and inspect the side of the piston and see inside there. I bought a snake camera $11...

    Intermittent "cough" during startup.

No "tank test" refers to a test using a test wheel. Not many have the test wheel and the 1000gal tank.

    Intermittent "cough" during startup.

Testing while tied to the dock is about the same as testing in your yard. You can do the tests on the trailer but problems need to be addressed in the water and in gear moving. The rpm's on the trailer or in N 11-1200 in gear 750-800

    significance of same cylinder-pressure

The low pressure really doesn't make any difference. When the pressure gets way off past 10-15% then it can cause starting problems. The uneven pressure makes the motor real hard to turn over. One of my customers has a 2005 200 Yam. Top cyl. has low comp and lightly scored. Yet runs like it has...
