1989 force 85hp loss of power

sorry for the length but wanted to answer as many questions as i could up front. ok, bought bass boat, 85hp force outboard, 1989, late year. said to me upon inspection, 'engine worked fine till i shut it off after running on lake mead with no issues'. 'wouldn't restart'. knew up front that...

    1989 force 85hp. model a? b? l?

i have just acquired the above motor. as apparently usual, the sticker on the transom mount has completely faded to white. i was, however, able to find a small sticker attached to the top of the stbd side block. 856A9F. this makes sense as the model number. there is no available serial number...

    manifold/riser bolt torque check 7.4l gen V

probably the last question. reinstalled the stainless risers on both. will have new manifolds on the second. the question is, is it advisable to re-torque the risers or exhaust manifold bolts after initial runup to temperature? leaks at the riser joint caused the original damage to the...

easy, rather less hard way to get upper gimbal swivel shaft out

bravo II outdrive, 1994, u-bolt, not two bolts. swivel shaft appears to be iron/steel-gimbal housing aluminum. the expected results. u-bolt can't be removed without the gimbal out of the way. no way to get to the top of the shaft to pound down. i suspect that i will try to use two wedges...

    advice on tstat.

so i'm replacing the tstat on my 1994 7.4L mercruiser engine. i see 140 and 142 degree versions and some automotive ones that according to the forums look good on the meter but leave you with overheated manifolds. any brand, degree suggestions? also, i see that mine has a 13psi radiator/hxger...

    manifolds

ok, now i'm looking at the manifolds that are either removed or in the process of being removed. rust and corrosion obvious. manifold exhaust surface shows uneven levels perhaps due to the metal ring around the exhaust block exit on the gasket to the manifold exit. the question is; how much...

    spent a fortune on manuals.

i'm a manual guy. i can read these and blissfully go to sleep in the evening. question: why am i finding things when removing the engine that aren't addressed in the manual. is a twin outdrive unusual? the oil feed for the lower end on my 7.4l lower end is, or i missed it, not addressed on...

bravo II exhaust bellows vs exhaust tube

if this has been addressed previously, sorry for the post. new here and haven't figured out how to search a particular forum. i have seen an article that using an exhaust tube is actually beneficial over a bellows arrangement due to possible swelling or increased back pressure with the...

two ports on the exterior transom plate, bravo II

well i have returned to the boat to try and find out why it tried to sink on me. twin 7.4l mercruiser bravo II outdrives. last april the port engine/outdrive developed a major leak that eventually forced me to truck my 35ft thundercraft to the storage yard. viewed from the inside between the...

    7.4l engine removal

ok, per my previous post regarding the replacement of the wye exhaust pipe, motor obviously has to come out. upon researching i am seeing posts that indicate that the stern drive must come off first. what is the reason for this? and a secondary question, is there a need for any specialty...

bullhorn leaking at or near transom 7.4l bravo

wondering if there is a method to remove and replace the bullhorn on a 7.4l bravo 1 assembly without having to remove the engine completely?
