    prop hit some rocks

Re: prop hit some rocks Here are pics of the prop, notice in the one pic the outer edge is a bit scraped too. the one blade seems unaffected. If I touched up the really bad spots with some aluminum repair goo, and smoothed it out, would that be enough to offset any super bad vibration?

    prop hit some rocks

Arghh, I was coming into dock and my prop hit some stupid rocks and took a small dime sized chip out of one of the blades on my almost new prop. I am going to smooth it all out with a file, will this make a huge difference or am off to the prop store? I havent been out with it since.

    DB Electrical Starter really whines

I just replaced my starter with one from DB Electrical. It works but really whines loudly, is that normal? Also, they said the 11 tooth would replace the original 9; it is working...but just freaks me out a bit. Also, there was this kind of soft foamy, rubbery thingy with the bolts that fit...

    Capacity Plate Nightmare

Ok, I just got a boat a couple of weeks back. Working out the kinks and getting it ready for reliable operation however, it is missing it's capacity plate. Best paint for inside boat

I have a kind of old ski boat that is pretty solid but the transom has some paint peeling off. The wood is in good shape but I would like to re paint it so it seals up nice and prevents the wood from getting wet for the most part. What is a good waterproof, sealing paint for such a purpose?

    Mercruiser versus car parts store

So when I need an item like an alternator or starter, or valve cover or pan gaskets, is it ok to just go to the parts store and get parts for a 250 straight six or do I have to get marine specific parts for my 165 hp mercruiser?

starter doesnt engage on first try

My 165 hp mercruiser, 84 vintage, doesn't engage right away when I crank it. It clanks a couple of times and then usually after 2 or 3 tries it starts right up. On some cars I know they need shimming for the starter to engage properly, is that what I need to do? Is there a kit for this issue...

    determining hull composition

So I just got an older ski boat which is in great shape. However I read these things on the site about rotting wood inside the fiberglass. Now my boat is an 84 and the people I got it from think it is completely fiberglass although not certain. How do I find out if my boat has balsa or foam...
