Electrical Fire - 2005 Merc 60hp 4 stroke - help in diagnosing please

On your type of electrical generation system, rectifier/regulators produce heat as they do their magic. They are shunting current to ground and that produces heat. Particularly air cooled R/R's. Not unknown for them to get so hot they harm adjacent components, with or without flames at times.

1986 Mariner 40HP 6E9 Throttle Cable Type Help

You can get Mercury branded cables, Yamaha branded cables or Teleflex branded cables. Just measure the length of the existing cable(s). Then get replacement cables of the same length. Remove the cable end(s) from the existing cables and install them on the new cable(s). If you want new cable...

1986 Mariner 40HP 6E9 Throttle Cable Type Help

Are the rest of the letters and numbers missing from the engine ID? I suspect you might be after the cable end fittings moreso than the cable itself since the cablers are pretty generic. Or do you plan on reusing your end fittings...

    2008 Yamaha 50tlr Trim/Tilt Working Intermittently

You might be confusing the relay assembly used on the OP's motor with say a Mercury model that uses separate Bosch style relays. Here is a photo of the OP's relay assembly.

Is the pump motor on the T and T unit getting ~12.6 volts when the relay is activated? Voltage without current flow is meaningless.

    Too big a battery harmful?

If you run a motor at WOT you COULD possibly damage it. Same with an alternator. Just comes with the territory. I could not agree with you more about boat systems never being as reliable as automotive systems.

    Too big a battery harmful?

Why not? That is the purpose of having an alternator. To charge up a battery, or batteries, and to provide current to electrical devices on the boat. As well as providing current to electrical components on the outboard motor itself. Talking of over tasking an alternator is similar to over...

Fuel feed pump not on/ Lower bottom carb dumping fuel out the front

I would agree with 99yam that the float valve should not be allowing gasoline to flow unhindered into the carburetor.

Fuel feed pump not on/ Lower bottom carb dumping fuel out the front

The electric fuel pump is plumbed to all six carburetors at the top of each carburetor. The pressure side of the pump that is. The electric fuel pump is also plumbed to the bottom of carburetor #6. The inlet side of the pump.

    2001 Yamaha 3hp (3MSHZ)

What does your owner's manual say? What does the Yamaha parts catalog indicate?

    Too big a battery harmful?

Yamaha for one lists minimum and maximums for batteries. Seems to be based on the type of alternator being used. Looking at a DF50 owner's manual I see only a minimum specification. With mention of paralleling multiple batteries. But no caution as to there being too many.

Yamaha 130 v4 idle mix screws

Yamaha, as far as I know, does not make carburetors. Keihin or Mikuni does.

Yamaha 130 v4 idle mix screws

Yamaha's term for an idle mixture jet is "screw, air adjusting". It does allow some air in as the screw is turned outward. Air that is mixed with gasoline. As the increased air and gasoline mixture gets into the combustion chamber it results in a richer fuel/air mixture.
