    78' StarCraft Tri Hull Rebuild

I’m back for a 5 year review of the Herculiner keel guard. Aside from a couple small scratches that exposed the paint underneath it has performed extremely well. It hasn’t hardened or gotten chalky. Would highly recommend it.

The 2 front seats got similar treatment for mounting. I started by building a plywood box for each seat and cut them the tallest i would ever want them to start, placed them in the boat with the seats on them and kept cutting a half inch at a time off the bottom till they were just right. I...

So here are a few more detailed pictures of how the bench seat is mounted. I built the bench seat and base and positioned them right where i wanted them, made a couple marks on the sides of the hull and glassed a wood block on each side with 1708. After that everything got covered in outdoor...

    78' StarCraft Tri Hull Rebuild

After some quick testing and a little much needed break it was time to finish the last stretch of the project. With the floor all cleaned and wiped with acetone I started rolling my Grey Herculiner on the floor. I also decided to do the floor in the bow area just because i had plenty left and...

    78' StarCraft Tri Hull Rebuild

Here is where it starts to look like a semi finished boat. Before replacing the cap I screwed a strip of 1/2" plywood around the top of the hull to replace the split fir strip that was there. Once I got the cap set in place and started lining up the hole i realized i had some warping in the...

    78' StarCraft Tri Hull Rebuild

So I have made some more progress on the trihull. I have my transom glued to the outer skin with peanut butter, stringer frame installed and filled as well as taking care of a small problem along the way. I forgot to take pictures of the transom being clamped but basically clamped a 2x4 on edge...

    78' StarCraft Tri Hull Rebuild

Re: 78' StarCraft Tri Hull Rebuild After all the prep was done i wiped everything down several times with denatured alcahol and started rolling on the bed liner. I started at the back and very slowly worked my way to the front. By the time i finished to first coat the back was ready for a...

    78' StarCraft Tri Hull Rebuild

Re: 78' StarCraft Tri Hull Rebuild So with the second coat of paint completely dry i started in on my alternative to the keel guard (over priced and ugly in my opinion). I decided a roll on bed liner is the route i wanted to go to prevent damage to the finish from the occasional beaching and...

    78' StarCraft Tri Hull Rebuild

Re: 78' StarCraft Tri Hull Rebuild I sprayed the final coat of white paint this morning and its now dry. I followed Woodonglass's painting thread/advice in this thread every step of the way and am very pleased with how it came out. Like I said before I plan use the exact same steps on the cap...

    78' StarCraft Tri Hull Rebuild

Re: 78' StarCraft Tri Hull Rebuild I finally got all my repair work done on the hull and it stayed warm enough to get 2 coats of primer on before Nebraska decided it wasnt quite spring yet. This is the painting guide im using on my boat. I purchased a bostich hvlp spray gun for $50 at...

Re: 78' StarCraft Tri Hull Rebuild Weather forecast was wrong for tonight so i spent the evening sanding but finally uploading my progress. So after getting all the old flooring, transom, stringers and foam removed, so the hull was nice and light, i flipped it to start my repairs. I don't...

    78' StarCraft Tri Hull Rebuild

78' StarCraft Tri Hull Rebuild Not much left of the wood core transom. Makes me realize how lucky I am it held out as long as it did. I got the cap lifted free and blocked up on the hull before being completely removed. Finally after 3 evenings after work and about 4 hours today I'm finally...

    78' StarCraft Tri Hull Rebuild

Have been doing a ton of research here and finally decided its time to get my boat back in shape. I used it 3 or 4 times over over 2 summers and has a freshly rebuilt 85 hp suzuki. Traded it for some labor finishing a basement for my dad and step mom. Got it home Thursday night and immediately...
