    Replacing stringers

My 73 only had glass on the inside of the engine stringers and ski locker, the rest was open wood bedded in a hard gray paste. Also had the same open pour holes, I always thought the PO of my boat did that, amazing they came from the factory that way.

    73 Sea Ray restoration

How are you all doing? I would like your opinions for my fuel tank. Originally it was placed under the bow going from port to starboard. Which pretty much took away any potential storage under the bow. My idea is to spin it to go from bow to stern. Luckily it fits either way, and will...

    Replacing stringers

The worst part is grinding and prepping the hull. Proper safety equipment is a must! Other than that it involves basic woodworking to cut the stringers, and a learning curve for fiberglass if you have not done it before. Lots of videos, articles, and advice here on the forums. Take lots of...

Discouragement is starting to set in

I would stay away from going too smooth on the deck. It will become very slick when wet.

Discouragement is starting to set in

Just keep at it, no point in throwing money and time into it just to have doubts later. Once it is done you will know it is done right, unfortunately I know it is a lot easier to say then do.

    73 Sea Ray restoration

I did a little bit more work on the deck. I still need to cut the piece for under the bow. I tacked in the riser so I can get my measurements. My plan since that area floated above the stringers and was filled with foam is -Cut and fit last piece of deck. -Remove, assemble, and completely...

Is this a somewhat simple fix?

Welcome, Not sure from the picture but could be a stringer or bulkhead under the crack making it seem solid. How is the rest of the deck, its possible the deck is rotted and sagged which caused the floor to seem pushed up where the underneath structure is.

    73 Sea Ray restoration

Made some progress this week. I sanded down the area of the hull that I patched, it still needs some fairing but at least it is no longer a crack! The pictures didn't come out great due to the light. I ended up setting the boat back down on the trailer and working on the deck, because I have...

1992 Malibu Sunsetter Euro F3 rebuild seeking advice

Keep up the good work! For the angle grinder if you have a harbor freight by you buy a cheap one from there. The fiberglass dust is a tool killer, I am on my third grinder the first one that broke was my good one.

    73 Sea Ray restoration

I have some before and after of the motor still have to put on a few of the parts but those can wait for now. I have to take some of the bunks and hull when I get home.

    73 Sea Ray restoration

Well still no deck (stupid more important responsibilities)🤣. I have the motor at a good stopping point and the bunks cut and fitted still need to be carpeted. I decided since the boat was already on blocks and the bunks were out of the way I would tackle the outside of the hull split. I...

    Window frame lose

If it is a machine screw is or was there a nut inside of the frame? Or is the frame threaded? Like I said not sure how it is constructed because yours is 11 years newer than mine. But a machine screw needs something threaded to go in. I would pull a good screw and see how it is threaded in...

    Window frame lose

Not sure with the year you have but I have a 73 with a curved windshield might be similar maybe not. Mine is secured from the bottom with nuts and the pieces are riveted together to keep the glass in. If you want to remove the glass you have to drill the rivet head off and use stainless or...

You will get better help for your situation by starting your own thread and including the type of boat and pictures.

    Transom

Was the boat garage kept? Or has the transom been replaced before? Just curious a boat that is of that age with a solid transom would be impressive. Although not impossible from what I hear, I have a 73 sea ray that was not fortunate enough to be solid. If you are doing a core sample I would...

    Transom

You can take core samples which is the only way to tell in areas you cannot see. You need a 1/4 drill bit and then some resin, catalyst, cabosil, and chopped strand. Drill the lowest point you can on the inside of the transom in a couple spots. Do not go all the way through and inspect the...

    73' mercruiser rewire

The manifold checks out which makes me happy! The $300 can go towards the deck and interior and I can finish putting the motor back together and get the wire harness going.

    73 Sea Ray restoration

Hope you all are doing well. Here is an update. I have been busy lately bought a new tow vehicle 2014 Ford F150 4x4 8100lb towing capacity so now I can pull just anything I will ever own! I also have been in the middle of a home refinance and working 60 hours a week. I did not get the bunks...

    73' mercruiser rewire

Well I finally got around to testing the manifold. Right now I have it sitting with water for 30 minutes. I know that water has too much surface tension. I figured I would do this first because if it leaks with water it will leak with acetone so no reason to waste the acetone. If the...

    73' mercruiser rewire

I got the motor painted. I cleaned up the exhaust manifold yesterday, I plan on cleaning up the gasket surfaces tonight and putting the end caps up. I am going to let the manifold sit for 24 hours before testing with acetone so the permatex has a full cure then fingers crossed install back on...
