    Prime Rib?

Tenderlion roast is what scares me . . . You cook it in a hot oven (450-500˚ F) for not very long and there is a fine line between medium rare and too medium  🤪

    Prime Rib?

We cooked a prime rib roast yesterday for Christmas dinner. We used the 'salt-crusted' method of cooking. Started out with the oven at 500˚ F for 30-40 minutes, then turned the oven off and let it continue to cook on the residual heat for another 2 hours or so. It came out medium-rare...

    08 Chaparral 220 ssi graphic

Welcome to iBoats :) . . . Your best bet would be to talk with Chaparral Boats. Otherwise, it would be Googling "Custom Boat Graphics" shops. . . . possibly Great Lakes Skipper would have something.

    Gas seeping from fill cap

Combo gas fill & venting cap? Don't fill the tank (y) The vent line probably has fuel in it from being so full, and the combination of vapor pressure and temperature expansion is forcing the fuel out of the tank.

    Seized outdrive

You will not know if it is going to be worth it until you open up the drive and see what the internal parts look like. If the outdrive has the correct amount of oil in it, then that would be a good sign. If not . . .

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Interesting . . . We have not seen such creativity all that often . . . usually folks just double up the wood at the joint area. It will be interesting to see how that works out (y)

    Buying Used Boat

Agreed, there is no magic number of years. The tendency as the boat gets older is to inspect the boat at a deeper level because more things could be going wrong. In particular would be structural rot from water retention, which is not always easy to see with merely visual inspection 🧐. You...

    Bravo 1 anode kit

They should cost around $50 for a set. So, a $100 set is merely profit margin.

Trimming with Outdrives and Trim Tabs

Trim tabs are more for port/starboard trimming. As for the outdrives, see what the boat likes and doesn't like, then go from there. My 33 footer likes the trim fairly far down, your boat may vary. You say 50% ownership. . . what about the person with the other 50% ? Would they be a good...

    broke driveshaft

Welcome to iBoats . . . :D That's a neat trick . . . never heard a drive shaft actually breaking . . . usually the splines or the u-joint yokes give it up first. When you say 'drive coupler' I assume you mean the coupler that is attached to the engine flywheel? Anyway . . . I assume the...

    Performance question

You might want to consider that the boat may be a bit water logged and heavier than normal. Maybe take the boat/trailer to a scale and hen just the trailer to net out the weight of the boat.

    Mercruiser 6.2L MPI overheating

As I recall, I had to use a variety of socket and box wrenches to get the hose coupler off. Putting it back on is a whole other trip  😩 While you have the thing off and are replacing the hose, check for Bravoitis and maybe go with the new-style hose kit that helps address Bravoitis.

Looking for Opinions on Super Bowriders

You will miss the cuddy cabin for storage. Although many of the traditional I/O boats that have been converted to outboards have a lot of space where the inboard engines used to be . . . just not as accessible. Space-wise for day boating it will be great. Overnighting . . . not so much. If...

    Merc 7.4l 454 Gen 4 to 5 interchangeable?

That serial number comes up as a 1989 7.4L/Bravo . It is interesting that a 1997 boat would have an older engine. I assume it has been repowered previously with a used engine. The Mark IV 7.4L will have the stamped steel valve covers whereas the Gen 5/6 will have the cast valve covers. I'm...

Bravo 3 overheating - oil expansion

I have about 1100 hours on my twin Bravo 3 outdrives. Rarely, if ever, have I gone over 4K RPM. 2500 - 3200 is the typical engine speed at which I run. If you have run the outdrive to the point that it gets hot as you described, then you should assume that there has been more wear. Having to...
