    Nice catch. We are in fresh water. Keeps the boats and equipment in nice condition, but our catches don't compare. Our required speeds are slower than the Mercruiser can handle. That's why the 9.9 'Rude came in handy. Even a 10 year old can join the fraternity....

    The motor will push the boat at about 6.5 mph. When we go fishing we run at about 1/4 throttle to make the lure attract fish. 1.9 mph is the ideal fishing speed, not what the motor is capable of.

    Hiawatha is going to be an issue. Not one of the more popular collectible brands. I did the following '56 7.5 by matching the inner cowl to a very close Rustoleum. Or, have a local auto paint shop color match it. The inside of the cowl should not have been faded too bad.

    Hummmmm. The stress while driving pushes the transom back and forth. Worst possible scenario. In the water the stress is forward only, as it should be. If anyone ever saw a bouncing motor fall off the back with transom attached, they would never go without a saver...

    I have an Android speed app on my phone that I downloaded just to check the speedometer on my car. Both boats have Vesselview so no need for anything else. My old classic Lyman has nothing, but I couldn't care less how fast she goes.

    I said that the weedless lower would have less thrust, but I don't think the loss will be as much as using a 4 HP. If you have a long shaft transom, I think a 6 short would not be the way to go either.

    The weedless is intended for just that, and it works very well in that regard. But, as far as pushing the boat at speed, it will not equal a 4 hp non-weedless. If your tansom is 15", the long shaft 6 HP will also not provide a full 6 HP power.
