    That's the answer. We have all become wusses, because Detroit has convinced us to buy their most expensive tow vehicles. My first towcar was a 1961 Mercury Comet with 3 on the tree and an 85 HP 144 CID 6 cylinder engine. Towed a 16 footer with a 60 on the back just fine.

    Metal boat tanks rust out too. If you ever had a gas tank rust out on a lawn mower, it wasn't taken care of very well. Nevertheless, pop the old boat beside the house without a cover all year long. The metal tank will crap out, but it will last longer than a sun exposed plastic one.
