Will Water in the water separating fuel filter cause RPM loss?

I have a 2001 225 optimax that I took out this past weekend and the RPM's were running low, approx 4700 WOT. My mercury smartcraft gauge was showing the alarm that there is water in the water separating fuel filter. Would that cause the engine not to get up to optimal RPM at WOT? Thanks!

    Mercury Optimax low RPM's

I have a 2001 Mercury 225hp optimax on a Ranger 205SVS. At WOT the highest RPM I got was 4700 and 47mph. The prop is a 26pitch. The mercury smartcraft gauge has a fuel symbol blinking(there is plenty of gas in the tank) and the bell is blinking as well. This is my first boat with a smartcraft...

    2001 mercury 225 optimax question

I recently purchased a 2001 ranger 205svs with a 225 mercury optimax. The top end speed is less than I would of thought(47-49mph) and didn't know if I should be concerned. Starts great and idle is good and gets on plane easily but thought it would run faster. Rpm's averaged 4200 while on plane...

    Mercury Engine problem

I have a 1987 Mercury 150 V6 that is making a ticking noise. Took it to a repair shop and they said everything checked out ok(gas, spark, compression) and they believe the problem is with the wrist pin. They said a new powerhead would run $5,000-6,000 or we could just run it until it blows. they...
