GOOD NEWS. . . . The PICTURE UPLOAD FUNCTION IS WORKING !!! The tech folks at the parent company have been able to remedy the issue. You can upload pictures once again. Thank you for your patience.
Some people will change the ujoint bellows and leave the exhaust alone which would explain why yours is cracked. It's not as critical since the exhaust fills with water when the engine is shut off anyways. Some people run an exhaust tube instead of the bellows. I've always replaced all of them...

Good deal. Glad you got it. Do you have an alignment bar? I don't see why you couldn't grease it before installing it. I don't know about the shims, I though I remember seeing them mentioned in one of those posts I have above. Others that know better will hopefully comment.
Welcome... Start your own thread with your question instead of at the end of this one that's 11 years old. These old threads are for reference only, unless you are the original poster, and posting in one will get it closed for further replies.
Crap must have gotten in there after you bolted it on. So it won't run off choke? Means a possible lean fuel mixture.. too much air and not enough fuel. Does it begin to run poorly as the choke plate opens?
If you manually hold the choke plate partially closed does it stay running? I wouldn't...
Here are a few other posts for you to check out from the archives... just don't comment in any. They are just for research and commenting in them will get them locked out.

If your referring to the small hole noted in the photo I have attached as "drain hole" that's normal. It drains water that leaks into the hollow cavity of the lower half of the drive around the shift shaft. They can get clogged with crud. Did you clean out that cavity around the shift shaft...
I agree, it sounds like bad gas. Collect a sample.. a half teaspoon of it (out of the boat) and see if it will light on fire. If you can't light it the engine won't either.
in '69 the drive for each would be the MC-1 model.
The MCM120 used a 1.98:1 gear ratio in the drive.
The MCM160 used a 1.68:1 gear ratio in the drive.
Using the 1.98 on the 160 will cause it to increase in RPM and have a higher WOT. Keep an eye on the tach, might be able to get a way with a...
You can use a length of threaded rod and some nuts and washers to make a puller to pull and press the bushings out and the new ones in, not too bad.. the tough part is the arm with the roller at the top. The set screw can be impossible to remove with corrosion and it's easier to split it with a...
A bad coil doesn't act that way, at least in my experience, they either work or don't.
Efi, Mpi, or Carbed?
Post the serial number of the engine.
How long has it been since it's had a tune up? Distributor cap, rotor, plugs, spark plug wires?
Yes that is a lot of stretch in the lower shift cable, and why you can't get both forward and neutral to engage. It's going to be a pleasure to shift in and out of gears once you get the new one installed. I don't 100% remember what I used for the "special tool" to un-thread the lower end of the...
