    Mako 28.4 fuel tank

I’ve had this scenario pop up on two different boats. Both times it was the fuel fill hose. Both times the leak was on bottom side (outside radius), where the hose transitions from vertical to horizontal

    Water Lines

I used a bronze scoop pickup (thru hull) to eliminate any priming issues. The strainer had molded hose barbs so I went with nylon hose fittings (non-corrosive) and reinforced nylon hose (clear to see obstruction) in between. Don’t forget to incorporate a quick disconnect to facilitate draining...

    Trim motor test results

As noted above, it’s a useless measure to determine the condition of a motor. intermittent operation of a motor points to winding or connection issues. Given the circumstances, my first test would be to check the operation and wiring between the switch (contacts) and the relay stack. Pull...

Replacing carburetor hoses with tygon ?

The stick and stone catcher isn’t an issue if you installed a quality, properly sized separating filter. Some filters have a pretty bad pressure drop right of the box. I would stay away from filters that don’t spec a pressure drop.

Best Method for loosening stuck bolts.

Lube with your favorite penetrating oil. I keep a can of PB blaster around the house. Use kroil at the shop Take a good size ball peen hammer, small head to the bolt, and give ball peen a good smack or three with a second hammer. The idea is not to beat or bend the bolt, but too shock stress...

Clearing salt build up from block

Salt (NaCl) is water soluble. The real issues is that most of the "salt" you see is a combination of chloride, sodium, sulfate, calcium, potassium and magnesium salt deposits. The calcium, potassium and magnesium deposits are the tough ones. We use chemicals (acids) designed to clean...
