    '88 85hp vs '85 and '86 125hp compatibility

Nordin said it. The test(you) was faulty, bad gauge. You can change the packs and coils, you'll need to cut the ends off and use butt connectors. They say the blue and black shouldn't be paired together but I never had a problem. The main difference in the 85/125 is the extra cylinder. They use...

125 force cant find serial & model numbers.

Very rare that all 4 coils go bad. In fact since 1986 I have seen only 1 coil that was bad. The 125 , Blue paint used the same pack and coils. as the 120 from 1987 to 1993 Standard ignition has cheaper prices. outboardignitiondotcom has test procedures. Good luck, put up your own post and add as...

1993 pontoon boat with a 40 hp Force.

MAYBE??? It sounds like the primer/choke might be defective? Just because you hear a click doesn't mean it's working. The "click" is the primer opening and allowing a quick shot of fuel to enrich the system and making it easier to start. The primer has a diaphragm that can go bad and leak...

Force 85 HP tilt/trim model no.

The 1989 T@T didn't come with a model or serial number it came as part of the engine package. If the "new" pump isn't working right??? Send it BACK. There's nothing you can do to it to fix it. NOTHING!! The only thing you can do to one of these pumps is to change the tiny red seals, these seals...

1995 Force 120 no water pumping through powerhead

No such thing as salt deposits washing away. There are some things that will help dissolve them. Big bucket: couple gallons of vinegar and box of baking soda. Run the mix through and let it set. Run it and repeat 4-5 times. That might help, maybe not. The one sure way is take it apart and use a...

1995 Force 120 no water pumping through powerhead

Pull the lower unit. The impeller shouldn't be soft and pliant. Replace it. Everyone I have seen(hundreds) is stiff and not easy to install. Old piece of hose, cut off end and run the hose up the pickup tube and run it. Running in a bucket: the bucket needs to be DEEEP at least 4" over the...

    Force 5hp (1990) no telltale?

On the mid section is a lump with 2(?) holes that the water should be coming out. Very TINY!!! wasps get into the holes and make nests. Small piece of wire up inside the hole and see if the nests/babies comes out. Reverse: it has it, just turn it around and then push the gear lever down.

Merc 40 Force - Takes forever to start

Like Racerone suggested, check/rebuild or just clean it out. Makes a huge difference in the way it works and adds years to it's life. The brushes sluff off and they leave carbon bits in the bottom and that can short out the works.

Adjust all 3 carbs at once or seperate ?

You can set it anyway you like. Then do the starting fluid test: spray around the intake side and if the spray makes any difference?? Fix it as an air leak can kill your motor. THEN!! it needs to be fine tuned in the water and in gear.

    Force Vs Johnson

The 85/90 Force were said to have the best power to weight rating for that motor. The rest is my opinion. The T@T on the Force is the weak point. But can easily be fixed with a few wrenches. They BOTH are hard on fuel. The Johnson electronics seem to last longer. Lower unit, both are about the...

Clean the carb? Unscrew the tiny screw on the top of the gas cap? Turn the gas on? When it's on remove the hose and see if it flows to the carb. Try removing the float bowl on the carb. Spray WD-40 or any penetrating oil on the base making sure the spray gets on the top of the bowl and the...

This or one the right size goes in the groove on the top of the crank shaft. Then the flywheel fits over the key with the slot cut in the taper. This is the part# but it might be hard finding. MAGNETO KEY F12150 You can make a key fit if all else fails. it needs to be a tight fit or it can...
