    VRO hose size

Getting ready for ice off, and was preparing the boat (16 ft. Lowe with 70 horse Johnson). When checking the oil tank, I noticed a leak at the bulb. When I remove it, it appears that someone may have replaced the bulb with a 5/16 bulb. The id. of the line measures 1/4 id. Also the line is vinyl...

91 70 hp johnson high idle

The rebuild of my engine has caused a problem of high idle. A couple of ideas that have been suggested resulted in no change. Those were to check for air leaks around the engine, carbs, etc. Check the timing and check the linkages. I have checked for leaks by ear and i used WD-40 around all the...

    High idle

I have a high idle (1500 rpm) after a rebuild of my 91 70hp Johnson outboard. I rebuilt the power head with all new components, rebuilt the carbs, and pressure tested the case. It held 8 lbs for over several hours. I was happy until I placed it back on the motor housing and started it for the...

    Crankcase dowel pins

I have found out the hard way that the dowel pins that center the main bearings have been pushed down into the block. I can get new ones from a local parts house, but what is the best way to remove the old ones. Do I drill them out, can I heat the surrounding metal and somehow pull them out...

    Testing carbs?

Re: Testing carbs? Gentlemen, a picture is worth a thousand words. Attached are some pics of the damage to the piston and cylinder. Also is a pic of the crankshaft rod journal that shows signs of heat blueing. All feed back is welcome. My plan is to have the cylinders bored and install new...

After receiving some sound advise ( actually made sense to me), Is there a way to bench test carbs, or a way to test if a cylinder is receiving fuel??? Carbs have been rebuilt and are on a 91 Johnson 70 hp. Thanks, Steve

    Crankshaft issue

Due to a failed VRO2 pump number 2 cylinder overheated and scored the cylinder. The cylinder can be bored, but I am now concerned about the crankshaft. It shows a slight blueish color on the rod journals. Is this somethiung that can be corrected (ground or polished), or is the crankshaft now...

Hello again all, I'm back for a second post in regards to my 70 hp Johnson stalling after being at full throttle for 30 seconds. I took it back out on the water and tried to notice all that was going on when the engine stalled. I had my assistant keep squeezing the fuel...
