    Alignment tool won't go into Gimbal bearing

    I just installed a new gimbal bearing (SEI Marine) using a tool kit I got off eBay. I wanted to verify engine alignment, but the second shoulder of the alignment tool won't go into either the new gimbal bearing or the original.     I need to replace my oil monitor hose (1998 Monterey, 4.3L, Alpha one gen 2), which has rotted between the transom and drive.     Anti-Cavitation plate - fix now or wait?

    Mercruiser 4.3L with Alpha drive. Last week when we pulled the boat out of the water I noticed that a piece of the anti-cavitation plate was broken off (see pics). As suggested by this forum, I found a prop shop that can repair it. Its a small shop, so I have to remove the lower unit myself...
