    Mercruiser 4.3 oil gauge mystery

IIRC there was a procedure in my OMC shop manual for testing these if I can find it I’ll post it

'92 7.4 Carburetor Accelerator Pump Not Working

I did see some fuel squirted out not sure if that amount is normal for a Weber 4 bbl or not.

    Exhaust Bellows 0914036 Replacement

They have been like this since like the second year of production; the idea with the slits is to reduce back pressure at idle when in the water.

    Exhaust Bellows 3.0 cobra

When you do the D/S bellows on the Cobra, note that the bellows is asymmetrical; the side with more folds goes down, which helps it to not crack from being tilted up. Put the clamp for the screw between the 1:00-2:00 position. I have found that the OEM bellows last at least 10 years if stored down.

    My boat is being a boat . . .

tip: always do a radio check while out on the water, my Standard Horizon would receive but not transmit, so I replaced it 2 years ago. If I didn't do a radio check I would have not known that.

    Exhaust Bellows 3.0 cobra

Yes you have to pull the drive the tail end of it is held in the pivot housing with a snap ring you can only access with the drive off. For that reason they never pop off like Mercruisers though.

    Mercruiser 4.3 oil gauge mystery

I would try pulling out the op gauge and put a voltmeter on the + & - terminals & see what it is getting, both with the ignition on & engine running. Also I’d pull apart that big cannon plug & make sure all the terminals are clean & free of corrosion. Do you have a dashboard wiring diagram for...

    Mercruiser 4.3 oil gauge mystery

That split journal crank is the big difference between the V6 & V8 which are otherwise quite similar. It is possible that later units with the balance shaft are better in this respect. Back to the oil pressure issue do you have any other issues with the other gauges? All the gauges get 12v power...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Electrickery at work; aided by its cohort CAN BUS eh? I had an overcharging issue on my old OMC I would have never found except for the fact that I bought an ARCO alternator; in the instructions it said that on OMC Cobras there can be high resistance in the alternator sense wiring. Suggested fix...

Agreed I also think on any inboard gas fuel system they would install an anti siphon valve.

    Intake Manifold Bolt Torque Spec

The 35 ft lbs is for the Pre Vortec engines (intake has 12 bolts; up to 1995). The 11 ft lbs is for the Vortec engines (intake has 8 bolts; 1996 and up).

1990 4.3 block and 1995 heads, which rocker tightening specs to follow?

In the OMC shop manual they have the GM procedure for adjusting the preload or the depth of the plunger of the hydraulic lash adjuster....I did mine that way, had no problems even though it was the first time I ever did it.

1990 4.3 block and 1995 heads, which rocker tightening specs to follow?

Something there doesn't seem right. Is the # you posted the casting #? http://machineworldny.com/asp/CylinderHeads.aspx?type=A&cno=10238181 I plugged in that # and it looks like you have the right heads for your range of model years What's the block casting #? I see you have the later model...

Mercruiser 5.0LX Rochester 4MV carburetor over fueling. ESN OF066511

if you look at the bottom of this pic you can see what I'm talking about...that little hook on the wire for the needle valve does not go in either of the two holes, it just gets clipped on the side of the float arm.

Starter starts something spinning in the back of engine only, nothing in the front.

Hopefully you can get at those starter bolts at the bottom rear starboard side. Can be really tough on some boats. On mine I pull out the rear seat on that side & remove the battery. Then it’s do-able. If you replace get a nice modern PMGR starter (I like ARCO) & get their bolt kit. They must...

Mercruiser 5.0LX Rochester 4MV carburetor over fueling. ESN OF066511

Also might check float to see if it absorbed fuel. If you’re buying a rebuild kit get one from Cliffs High Performance Quadrajets. He has better quality parts esp the accel pumps. When installing the float make sure to get the little clip in the right place (do not put the hook in the holes on...

1990 4.3 block and 1995 heads, which rocker tightening specs to follow?

I thought these changed when they went to the non-adjustable valve train. A 1995 should be pre vortec IIRC. Non adjustable was on Vortec only correct? That & roller rocker arms. When I did mine I used the factory spec of 1 turn after zero lash.

Video: What The Heck is This?? - 1999 VOLVO 4.3 GL - 2 bbl Holley Carbureted, ETS ignition

If the fuel line dips below the level of the tank, an antisiphon is required. On my boat this was a problem, the engine would start and rev in neutral just fine but would not plane out the boat. I went through the ignition and carb, nothing really amiss, took it to a good marine mechanic and...

Video: What The Heck is This?? - 1999 VOLVO 4.3 GL - 2 bbl Holley Carbureted, ETS ignition

PS I'd like to see what the spark plugs look like, good engine vs the one that is surging. blistered white electrodes, fuel starvation...float too low....anti siphon clogged... black electrodes, maybe choke not staying open float too high, grit in needle valve one last thing I'm assuming...
