    3.7 gets hot while idling

As mentioned by others this engine is very sensitive to slight over heats. Not sure if you have the upgraded heat exchanger or not? If it were my boat I would start with replacing the impeller including the base and housing as they are plastic. Check the water tube is not collapsed and you are...

Alpha one gen 2- upper drive shaft seal leak

You will need the wrench to take off the input yoke, use some heat patience and good penetrating oil like Kroil. the seal needs to come out from he outside in So you have to tear down the upper. Keep track of where any shims go and if you don’t replace bearings existing shims should be ok. get...

This happened today, and in the blistering heat.

Jetskiis too. On older Sea doos like mine they are plastic. A buddy mentioned his broke while towing. When he got where he was going ski was about a foot farther back

EX Lube bearings on new to me trailer, how often to physically check bearings?

I think what you outline makes sense and is what I would do. I think these are really nicely set up so you can pump out old water contaminated grease with fresh new grease. Would pump until fresh grease comes out. How much or how far do you tow?

    1999 Searay 185 Knocking

2022 was a life time ago... Yes but now that you are having issues unscrew the fuel filter and dump contents into a clear container. You would be looking for water, phase separation and debris. What engine is in the boat? Obviously if you cant get on plane way down on power.

    1999 Searay 185 Knocking

start with contents of fuel filter, suspect fuel contamination. also would start with compression test. What is maintenance history of boat and what do spark plugs look like

    Prop, or Engine Issue?

yes prop is likely contributing but you are also correct to ask about condition of the engine. If you have good compression carbs and spark is in good shape then yes going down 2" in pitch should get you around 5200. For your set up assuming your speed is relatively accurate I would say your...

Time for my first bellow change, tips?

And I was using a cheap poorly made bellows expander too. All in all wasn.t that bad, especially considering the originals were 18 years old. I doubt I will still have this boat in 18 more years

Time for my first bellow change, tips?

I had expected a fight when I did my exhaust bellows too but I didn't think it was a big deal, was glad I did full bellows vs the tube. Mine is a gen 2 to be honest I had more of an issue getting the driveshaft bellows retaining ring on

you could probably figure out how much should drain from the 4.5 to see coolant volume on the closed cooling version and back out how much would be in the heat ex

MerCruiser 3.0 Runs Poorly As It Warms Up

1/8 gap is too small to verify good spark should be able to jump like 3/8" I thought you replaced the manifold gasket but I see you mention it still gets affected by spraying cleaner on surface. If that is the case yes you need to fix it. did you check the manifold and head for warpage...

    Aftermarket stainless upper gimbal pin?

the picture you posted has pitting in the seal surface plus some wear marks. Was it leaking ?I assume that is how the pitting started. Merc used to sell steel ones for I think that much until the aftermarket undercut them on price with a better part. seems like a dumb place for steel

    Aftermarket stainless upper gimbal pin?

You are so far into it I wouldn't reuse the original one. Hills makes good stuff. You see these pins selling for $30 up to $300-400 so just be sure of the quality.

    MerCruiser update

What you outline mirrors my experience on a fresh water lake in upstate NY. engines and drivelines always outlasted the rest of the boat. Just drained a little bit of rust and some sand comes out. 30-40 year old boats … transom stringers may rot, interiors get roached but engine still ran...

    1996 wave venture 1100

I have used a vacuum extractor like used for oil changes. Put the tube down the fill port to suck it out. when I did this with my 65 Pontiac due to rust in original tank. I let it sit in covered 5 gallon buckets, sediment settled, and I poured it through paint strainers only lost about a gallon...

Time for my first bellow change, tips?
