    5.7LX rebuild question

I bought a 5.0 silver package plus manifolds and elbows off Them six years ago When i repowered from a 4.3. They tweaked the kit to eliminate the fuel pump and substituted a tbolt distributor for the delco, maybe they will do the same for you? I just preferred to stay with stock merc ignition...

    Random knock over 4k RPMs...

Check the filter and dist cap as advised first. I use ethanol pump gas in my seadoo for years , no issue in the spring. So many issue blamed on ethanol without due diligence troubleshooting,

is the amberjack an inboard or something like a TRS drive that uses a separate transmission ? Are you looking at swapping complete drivetrain or just the engine and use what is in the sundancer ? I assume sundancer is outdrive ?

Buying a automotive engine to replace my mercruiser, need opinions

In addition to the cast impeller a marine water pump is bi-directional not sure which belt configurations drive it the opposite way than it would be in an auto configuration. Normally a truck cam would be ok but I think this is bigger than a truck cam. I think the 230 deg duration @.050" would...

    "Fogging" new VP 4.3?

I think some folks mix the two stroke and fuel pour it into fuel filter when changing, run it a few seconds. to get oil gas mix in engine. come spring the small amount in the filter is quickly burned off during start up

Are Merc Mc-1 and Alpha 1 Gen 1 interchangeable ??

Yes an Alpha one gen one will swap with a MC1 drive. Should be plug and play. Also the alpha drives will be about 10 + years newer than your MC1 drive The driveshaft comment you are hearing is related to inline engines used a shorter driveshaft where it engages the coupler. Shouldnt be an issue...

    Volvo Penta out drive

Id start by going up 2” in pitch assuming current prop has you in the correct rpm range fir engine. I did a similar swap with a 4.3 mercruiser (1.82 ratio drive) powered boat. PO cracked the block, i swapped in a 5.0 which by the factory would have come with a 1.62 ratio drive. Went from a 19”...

1995 Searay 5.7 GM winterizing mods..

For the block drain I just use 1/4" hex pipe plugs Merc makes a hose with a drain at the low point -the drain takes one of the blue plastic plugs

High Performance Gear Lube Color - Bravo 3

I would think that means you have some mositure coming in. I use High perf gear lube in my alpha one gen 2 - after 40-50 hours each season ti comes out the same color as it goes in. I also use it in the jet pump on my sea doo instead of buying the 9 oz Sea Doo synthetic gear lube bottle for...

    Pre Alpha Prop?

Unless someone swapped the wrong ratio drive on it, verify the tach first before playing with props. Unless the engine needs work/tune up, the hull is water logged would expect a 17" to pull way more rpm than 3200. What is the mantenace hsitory on the engine- I know you said compression is...

    Air Don't Freeze Winterization

Yep, drain them and i leave the plugs out. Works fine, biggest issue you may see is corrosion on plug threads in cast iron. If you have the newer blue plastic ones this is not an issue

Fluid Changes for Winterizing, Do I Need to?

This thread is an interesting take on an oil thread.… Change it or not doesn't matter to me. Personally I do my oil and drive lube annually and the boats I’ve maintained have lasted 31, 25, and current boat is 17 years and counting. Seems cheap compared to the other work you’ve posted about ...
