The reality is no DIYer is doing that and I’d guess few independents do. Why? Well there is the issue of possible seized fasteners and how many individual wiring harness connectors need to be undone.

Ok for the verbally sensitive folks, I'll change my terminology from conspiracy to augmented revenue strategy. Because that's what it is. The truck does NOT have to be designed that way. Older Ford trucks certainly were not. All better now? And for everyone's enlightenment next time I'm at my...

Because most independent mechanics (remember those, the ones most people use after warrantee) aren't going to want to do this. When you say work on it, it depends on what the "work" is. Pulling cylinder heads? can that be done? More un-repairable vehicles could be the result. That's why I don't...

Raising the cab? Can you imagine? So instead of making the engine compartment big enough to work on the engine, we are going to tell you to just raise the whole cab! I really have a tough time taking that seriously! As if it’s great news! More than likely it made it easier/faster/cheaper on the...

My older one is a straight 6. Very easy to work on far easier than any modern vehicle I’ve seen. Even my later one with the Hemi V8 isn’t bad and the later Grands & Durangos are even easier & have a nice wider engine compartment. That old straight 6 is all cast iron, weighs more than modern V8s...

Google Air France 447 for my reasons for caution with autonomous anything. A totally preventable accident that was caused by too much reliance on technology and not enough human pilot training

Car insurance has close to doubled in about 6 years not funny is it? oh and the homeowners insurance they tried to clobber us on that being close to the water and well, when we hit back with...ahh guys....we are only 100-125 feet ABOVE sea level, so no flood damage here, no storm surge etc a few...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Wow Ted that's amazing. OK got a new business idea for you.... If you are ever on the Hull Truth, there are always a few threads on inboard or I/O conversion to outboards, and this stability issue is rarely mentioned, I bet you could do engineering consults to determine if the conversion will...

that's why I called it a conspiracy the auto makers do it because they can, even if not required by fed regulations I'd rather keep my old vehicles and patronize aftermarket companies like Crown, Omix/Ada etc, and salvage yards, than these robber barons. Yes aftermarket can be sketchy but I got...

To me to be told that you can’t pass inspection because your back up camera is dead & it’s $2 grand to replace and your headlight unit which must be initialized for another grand is just insane, and elitist I might add. No respect for people who work hard & don’t make that kind of cash. It just...

I’ll go back to what I said without assigning causes: What has all these improvements wrought: More safety yes but: Many young people just cannot afford a new vehicle and neither can many retired folks. For many it’s either chronic leasing (the payment that’s never done), bare bones econo cars...

Winterizing for in water - engine raw water drain

Some inboards are left in the water here, over winter, but I'd never do it with an I/O. Not sure what you'd do about the water still in the Y pipe!

OK guys, have you looked at your car insurance premiums over the past few years? Notice anything different? Whether it's politics or the auto companies, car insurance premiums have skyrocketed in the past 4-5 years and high tech expensive to fix vehicles, are an obvious cause.

I have always used stainless in salt water, and coated the prop shaft splines with Blue Snot (Evinrude triple guard, best waterproof grease I ever used).

My point is: Who asked for this? Blind spot monitoring It’s a conspiracy guys, between the unelected bureaucrats and the auto execs. Good for them bad for consumers. While the feckless politicians crow about affordability!

Sounds like that boat has to get pulled out and the drain holes need to be rodded out. Very risky to do otherwise.
