    OMC 5.7 cooling system

Can some one tell me why running a boat with a 5.7 in it with a closed cooling system would get salt corrosion in the exhaust manifolds and the Y tube if it were operated in salt water ? I have been told this several times here but I guess I'm just too stupid to figure it out. Seems to me that...

1988 OMC Cobra 5.7 in 201v Starcraft rear engine mounts

Getting ready to install this rebuild in the next few days and while making new wood for the front motor mounts I set the mount itself on the aluminum rail that the engine is mounted on only to see that the holes do not line up. In fact the holes are nearly an inch closer than the mount holes...

    my new old 1988 ss20v

OK , I inspected the Y manifold with my inspection camera and have found that it is in very good condition. It does have just a light dusting of white corrosion that is superficial and not rot on the bottom sections of the Y. As for the manifolds themselves , I took them to my local machine shop...

    my new old 1988 ss20v

a couple of pics after cleaning --- I will have to make a deeper inspection of the y tubes..When you say exhaust shutters I hope you are not saying that there is supposed to be a plate on the rods that go through the coupling ends of the y because that is what is there, just rods no shutters...

    my new old 1988 ss20v

Chased parts all day but started to mess with the black mess on my gunnels. Hit it a little yesterday with a stiff wire wheel and it would remove the stuff but I did not want to scratch the livin daylights out of the Aluminum so I quit and decided to wait until I found a softer wire wheel before...

I am changing out 5.7 engines . I have a Cobra out drive . When I took the jewelry off the blown engine for removal I did not remove the shift cable set up from the bracket instead leaving it all in one piece. I did have to remove the throttle cable for removal. I am using the same intake...
